Dr. Anthony Fauci says statistics for hospitalizations among children with COVID-19 are getting overblown because many young patients are being admitted with unrelated ailments before they test positive.

But the other important thing is that if you look at the children who are hospitalized, many of them are hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID," Fauci continued. "And what we mean by that if a child goes in the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID. And they get counted as a COVID-hospitalized individual. When in fact, they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that. So its overcounting the number of children who are, quote, 'hospitalized with COVID,' as opposed to because of COVID."

its not overcounting it if that's what the statistic is measuring. how people understand or interpret it is the issue

Someone who gets hospitalized for a non-covid injury or illness that happens to test positive for covid should not count as a covid-related hospitalization.

I know what the information says. I want to know what TC's trying to say about this.

I don't know about TC but it definitely makes me question the veracity of all the data that has been reported.

what makes you question it? it's a statistic which is pretty transparent: Number of children hospitalized that have COVID

It is still a figure that's worth reporting, though, since it indicates how much capacity hospitals need for covid-positive patients (which includes stricter PPE protocols, isolation from other areas, and several other accommodations).

The issue is that the news presents it as serious so the assumption is that it's caused. It's literally media hysteria.

It's a figure worth reporting to the government, not the people. Thing is it's sent to the general public who have no stake in hospital throughput as long as their hospital is not full.

The statistic really should be "COVID-19 hospital admissions" rather than hospitalizations.

Fauci did not, in fact, say that and it's an incredibly skewed interpretation of what he *did* say.

They have a stake in making sure it stays not full. Keeping them informed as to how great the risk of it being overwhelmed is can certainly be worthwhile.

I guess it must have been sarcasm, mocking the way Fauci says things/lies. I took it too literally.
