A common thing right-wing people have against Venezuelean communist policies is that...they eat rats? And the implication is that they're starving and have to kill and eat mice.

But that's not it lol. They don't eat mice. They eat capybara and have been for longer than any communist leader has been in power. It's a delicacy there.

I mean, if we wanna talk about something really disgusting... in China, they eat pretty much anything

seems similar to Nutria which are also known for being good to eat

Guinea Pig is common enough to eat in Peru I guess. I had from high school that emigrated from there and he it was actually pretty good.

At least they don't eat cats and dogs I suppose. Although I admit I do like a hotdog myself......

for a fair reason... feral cats are full of diseases and domesticated dogs have gut bacteria that is harmful to people. This is why in nations where people eat dog it's factory farmed dog.

We're supposed to eat cows, pigs, and some birds, why do these 3rd world countries eat non food animals?

I'm not sure how you can look at a dog and think "that looks like food" instead of "aww how cute, look at the puppy"

If you eat dogs you might as well not even be considered a person, just like if you eat people you are no longer a person, you're a monster

Id rather eat a dog or cat than an insect or certain kinds of shellfish tbh

Uhh no, they aren't just another animal, they are the 1st animal we domesticated and they have been man's best friend and helped us before we even had societies. It's been beneficial for both species and you can't say that about any other species besides maybe cats

Not dogs, because they are companions not livestock, and it's been that way since before recorded history

Lol, the whole reason we domesticated anything was to be able to eat it regularly.

Fun fact, the reason they eat Capybara is because when missionaries first arrived there there were so many of them that the Church classified them as a fish for dietary purposes.

Ever watched the food travel shows? I know I've seen a few times on episodes in south east asia they will catch and eat rats in rice fields, which I believe to be a common food there?

Given that different places eat different things we would be unwilling to eat (balut anyone?) I'm not immediately seeing a controversy about people eating rats?
