I'm not good with scary stuff and this game is full of it <_< so if I don't check in for a few days, assume I've had a heart attack of fright

That game is fucking GREAT.

I went in completely blind, it was incredible.

Did you figure out the safe code in that office with the message?

If you like story and subplots, take hacking. Lots of cool emails to read through.

Deffo take Hacking.

Just accept that level 2 hacking is the hardest one out of 4 difficulty levels.

There's a few other high-priority things that I can get into later.

Went to trauma centre, found email that he was someone else. Died to fire alien multiple times, left

Tried to get in to 'somewhere else' but it didn't work. Went on main quest to hardware labs, found the recipe for bullets and the gun, went back and made a fuckton of bullets. Need to take a small break for irl stuff then I'm gonna go to hardware labs again

I took hacking and stealth. Also the medkit buff. I'm a coward, so my plan is to sneak past the aliens without having to engage them

It's the first example of how cleverly this game is designed.

You can get basically anywhere at any time if you're clever, but the apartment is easy.

Neuromod division, first floor lobby, go past the gravlifts and take the door on the right through the office.

Alright, I'll check it out again once I'm done with this area

Made it to the airlock and that's where I'm calling it a day. We'll explore the wonders of microgravity next time

Is there a better way to damage the purple teleporting aliens? Emptying multiple clips into them is kinda inefficient

Like I said, it's part of how cleverly that game is designed.

If not, you can just look it up, it's nothing game-changing but it's nice to have.

Just remember that about the Looking Glass messages: that window looks into an entire room, you can see more of it if you move around.

I noticed that about looking glass messages in the lab where you fix the server. Since you were up close to the looking glass, I guess

Got the loot

Both main and side mission want me to go to Psychotronics, so I guess I'll head there next

Went into Psychotronics

Got the scope. Went back to my office because I ran out of ammo, health and medkits

Now I have a few of each, so I'll go back into Psychotronics

Made it back into Psychotronics, got the mods and the crafting recipe, and went for the mimic power, along with the cool sequence alongside it

Went through Psychotronics. The lab with everything labelled 'not a mimic' was great. The (clearly signposted) alien breaking out of the procedure...not so much

Swung by the morgue but it seems I'm lacking a key card. Now I'm at the entrance to GUTS, which I'll do next time, I think

Otherwise, I'm almost at the 5 hour mark and my general thoughts are that it's very good. My only experience with immersive sims so far has been through the Deus Ex Jensen games, which I liked a lot. This is also very good, even if it's missing some stuff that I really liked in those (eg dialogue options). The fact that I severely dislike anything scary yet I'm still happily playing this speaks volumes as to its quality tbh

And now you have the scope, I can talk.

The Mimic power is SUPER helpful, don't bother with higher levels.

You can use it for small entrances.

Past that, the Neuroshock or whatever ability is incredibly helpful for not murdering runs and the telekinetic burst is a great attack.

Finally:

GET THE ONE THAT INCREASES YOUR LOOT OF TYPHON MATERIAL

It takes a fair few before that happens, not sure how many.

I just used Hack, Hacked turrets will always help you.

Can definitely second this. That was one of the early ones I got and after the scope, the game became a cakewalk.

The mimic power was the first one I got. I just can't figure out how to use it: I press and release the button (I think LT?) and it does nothing

I'll upgrade the others too once I get the neuromods

I noticed a mimic in that room, but I didn't realise it spawned from the room. That makes it even better imo

You have to aim it at a specific item while holding the trigger.

So you start, the effects appear, you look at a coffee mug that is very close to you, release the trigger.

Almost all the active powers work like that and also give some slowdown while you're aiming.

Did you get the neuromod skill to increase your recycling yield? That's one of the ones I recommend to invest in asap for obvious reasons. It really helps

I held off for a fairly long time but still had all the same corpses lying around once I got it.

Worked out perfectly.

Just woke up from a Prey related nightmare ama

If 999 (ie the last game I played that scared me) was any indication, it won't be the only one

Made it to the Arboretum, including the detour to the plasma shield thing

Q Beam weapon is pretty cool, but uses up too much ammo

Beat the technopath and made it back to my office for a breather, but my fabricator is showing that there are no recipes to scan. Is that a glitch or is that supposed to happen?

Edit: it was a glitch. It's working now

Fun note: you can sequence break pretty hard with the glue gun.

Get you the telekinetic burst and the other ability that shuts down enemy abilities.

The second one is really important, I had forgotten about it.

By the time you get the game figured out Nightmare becomes a big ass bag of resources.

I need to get those abilities still, so far I only have the recycling ability that Ash mentioned

I'm also wary because I really don't want to set off turrets, especially since I use them a lot to attack weaker Typhon

You can do three Typhon skills before you get attacked.

Hacking solves the issue, or you can just turn into an apple or something and roll past the turrets, they can't turn around.

OK, I'll keep that in mind. The status screen seemed to suggest i was close to the limit

I guess psychoshock or whatever it's called (though I still need to scan it) and shutting down enemy abilities will be my other two

You really are overreacting a bit to the turrets.

The maps almost never refresh, so any hacked turret remains hacked until destroyed.

All you need is to dodge them once.

Like the one in my office I hacked and fortified, I had like 80% of the Typhon abilities and it never reacted.

Don't put too much stock into turrets turning on you. They're extremely easy to deal with, and the Typhon abilities are too good to pass up. Psychoshock in particular is probably the deadliest ability you have access to in the entire game. I think it's best to just invest in them all. Machine Mind is another you're definitely going to want later. And if you enjoy Prey enough, you could always just abstain from using them in a second playthrough. It would certainly add much more of a challenge.
