A few months back, I wrote an essay on the Lindsay Ellis/Raya situation

2021 has been the worst year of my life. I am traumatized by it. To this day I still have people scolding me by how I handled it, that I should have handled it differently, that I should have controlled my stans, as if I had the capability to know what any of these people were even saying to strangers on Twitter while I was shitting blood for weeks on end.

I don't know what happened to this generation. We're reaching a point where you can't share opinions at all. I don't know how people's emotions have become so fragile that a mere mention of one's thoughts can stir you into a raging maniac. People have become so weak-minded and it shows. And I fear it's only going to get worse. Imagine the day where you can no longer admit your favorite color is blue...because of the implications. I still can't get enough of the time white people tried to get Speedy Gonzales canceled and real Mexicans had to be like, back off, we actually like the show.

These people are just a disease.

To which not only did she release a video debunking and addressing the laundry list of shit being levied at her, including an explanation of context which involves her own rape while she was in college, but also revealed the full extent of the harassment which spilled out to Jenny Nicholson and Sarah Z. There's already been video clips floating around to make Jenny Nicholson sound like she's saying something racist about Finn from Star Wars, when she was making a comment about how poorly the Disney trilogy treated him - people went from toppling Lindsay Ellis to trying to topple other "breadtubers" who have been judged to deserve the same treatment.

you nailed it here @pinky0926 . I don't know much know too much about Ellis but my understanding is yeah much of her fanbase is exactly the type of people who would turn on someone in an instant for some social media clout.

For sure, but I think there's something larger going on here as well. People who accept and constantly engage in the sort of progressive rhetoric around "trauma", microaggressions, victimization and so on are not building a healthy, rational psyche. I think that sort of rhetoric tends to encourage catastrophizing and fragility.

Unless she doesn't engage in that sort of thing, then just ignore my comment. Again, I don't follow her.

I stopped watching anybody associated to that channel pretty much since the first wave of the accusations,

Well, some people were obviously not at fault. Just so happened most of the ppl I watched from there were at one point a part of the problem. The Channel Awesome fiasco is fucking wild, in case you didn't know about it. But yeah I stopped watching Cinema Snob in particular even though I was into his content at the time. He sided with the Walkers and basically didn't say much afterwards. I think he took a who gives a shit, we got to make content side, which made it hard for me to watch his shit
