I read the book when I was younger and didn't enjoy it, but then the movie came out and people were excited and I was like "oh maybe my childlike mind couldnt really appreciate the majesty of Dune and I'll enjoy it more now"

Nah the film sucked just as hard.

Its a cinematic movie, its meant to be an cinematic experience and not so much about a story.

although I never read the book so I was definitely involved in the story this time. Part 2 cant come soon enough though. I dont think itll be released for like 2-3 years though

I liked the world the movie built and am excited to see the next one and then be disappointed when the finale gets cancelled when the second one doesnt make enough money

It didnt suck imo but its overrated just like 2049. A fine showcasing of art, visual effects and decent acting, but as whole its simply boring to watch. No real tension other than the harvester scene, and the screenplay was odd at times, which, along with the soundtrack, had a negative effect on the pacing.

Are you sure you're thinking of me? I don't think I have a "actually the Lannisters are right" rant. And if I did, I wouldn't have brought it up for like 5+ years.

I think at most I tended to argue the side that the Starks absolutely suck and every single terrible thing that happens in Westeros is kind of their fault because they're incredibly stupid, but that's not really the same thing.

Nah, there's also CHOAM, the Empire, the Guild, the Bene Gesserit, the Bene Tleilax, the Landsraad, so on and so forth.

Light on the world-building Dune is not.

Yeah, I couldn't get into it either. The visuals were stunning but I found the story and characters boring. I got lost one too many times, I don't get wht the fuss is all about.

The book was good though. Also chapterhouse and the other one that was good again.

Messiah/children/god emp were meh tho

having read the book more than a few times I really enjoyed the movie. it's interesting though that while it mentions a lot of the concepts in the book, it doesn't really flesh them out. I suspect this may make for a much more interesting experience if you already know the story than if you don't.

also, while everyone seems to like the baron in the new one, I thought he was way underused. he's nice and creepy and all, but he only occasionally appears and has like one or two lines at a time. he's barely a character and you almost get no exposure to the harkonnens at all. and they focused on making them creepily alien rather than sickeningly decadent, which I don't mind too much, I just wish they had more development. but then the movie was extremely long already (though I could have watched it for 6+ hours easily.)

one thing I really liked was the feeling of dryness you get from the desert. when they show sand, it doesn't feel like beach sand, it looks course and dry as heck, and when there's moisture anywhere it sticks out like a sore thumb in the extremely dry environment.
