I've managed to get up to level 27 on survival mode by spamming shiva's flying kick move. I think I could have got further with some better RNG but we'll see.

Definitely one of my favorite games. I still do play it online from time to time.

I haven't played in a bit but yeah I remember Shiva's flying kick being awesomely OP in survival. The trick with basically any of the characters is to stack as many elemental bonuses as possible on your dash move, so every time you use it you just devastate the entire screen

I haven't played it in awhile, got frustrated with it.

Definitely harder than 3 is, I can beat 3 pretty easily.

Especially electricity. Stunning the entire room and getting a combo hit bonus for every person affected + that ability that gives you extra damage for high combos + that ability that gives you healing for every hit = insta-death for basically any creature + invincibility. At least, i think. i've seen guys doing that at least. lol.

Not 4 but I still play SoR2 from time to time on my 3DS.

I don't remember what my highest level was but I know I made it to where they start throwing those red shadow-looking dudes at you

It's alright. Usually great, but there is definitely a slight but noticeable lag when doing inputs. Locally is superior, but playing online with friends ain't so bad either. Randoms it's a crap shoot, sometimes it turns into a slide show.

Think that's around 25 or 26. Shit gets real hard then, you need to play cheap to win

Ok, just had a really good run and got up to 37. Shit gets ridiculous fast though. I was losing almost all of my health every hit and then regaining it every hit. And the environmental hazards were escalating.

Oh ok well I know I at least broke 30 because I have the achievement for it. Honestly I need to pick it back up, it's a great game

i played the shit outta that game when it came out. beat Arcade Mania, haven't gotten through Mania+ on Story yet, or even attempted Arcade Mania+. kinda wish the DLC dropped before i already sunk like 150h into the game

I haven't played it, but I'm glad that Blaze is still hot. It's nice that they didn't try and censor her.

Even with 150 hrs in it I'd still recommend picking up the DLC, the new characters are great and survival mode feels almost like a new game

It's hard to go back to any character after DLC Shiva, the dude is seriously OP, but they're all fun. I haven't quite figured out Max yet. Estelle is awesome though.

i have it and it's definitely cool. i've sunk a number of hours into survival and i like all three new characters. but my brother and i already played the shit outta the game and got kinda burned out on it by the time it dropped.

i was excited for it when it was announced, but it really really irks me when developers take a retro game series and make a new one with mobile game-style graphics. i hate mobile games and i hate the art style most of them use. and it's even worse when the game is billed as "retro-style" when it's actually mobile game-style. mobile game-style =/= retro-style.

I consider that almost comic book style than being mobile game style

I think lvl 27 was my highest. It gets so hard in those later levels even with spamming Shiva's kick.

well, whatever you want to call it, i'm not a fan of it. especially when it's used on retro style games. they just have so much more nostalgia for me when they look all pixelated and rough like the retro games actually looked. i know it's pretty nitpicky reasoning for not wanting to play a game, but that's just how i feel.

but the screenshots of ones i've seen online have that same kind of cartoony hand-drawn look, and that's just not what i want to see in retro inspired games. i want to see big huge blocky pixels, lol.

Yes. You can also change the music to the Sega soundtracks and even select characters from past games.

I will say when they first released screenshots of SoR4, it did look like a mobile game. I'll fully agree with that. Final product art was tweaked and looks fine now. Also the characters control perfectly.

You also quickly unlock SoR1, 2, and 3 versions of the characters in all their pixel glory.

i just looked up some gameplay footage of it with the retro and retro CRT filters on. looks pretty nice! i think i am gonna wishlist this after all.

I'm a big fan of the art style. I was skeptical in the trailers but the game itself really works and the colours pop, everything looks super crisp. I think it was definitely a good move.

The game throws in retro levels that are exactly like the old games. It's a nice nostalgia trip but there was no need to replicate that here, I feel.

why are you under that impression? do you believe that screenshots of games you can find online when you google a game are nonrepresentative of what those games actually look like?

Yeah I think once you play the game you'll see they did a lot of retro fan service. This isn't just a cash grab game.

There's no SoR4 Skate but his older versions are in the game. SoR3 Roo was added in the free update along with the Mr. X DLC. You need to put in a cheat code to unlock him. Then I think after playing as him once, he stays unlocked on the character select screen.

Tell you guys one thing...it fucking sucks that Axel is SO bad in this game. Like wtf. It's like they wanted someone as slow as max, but with much less power, very little range, very few I-frames and a huge recovery on every special move.

S+++ tier: Shiva. This guy is ridiculous
S tier: Adam. Just all round awesome. Big combos, big range, big moves, great movement.
A tier: Floyd. Floyd is really good. Huge range.
A tier: Blaze. She rocks actually.
A tier: Estelle. Really cool character.
B tier: Cherry. This is probably hugely wrong. She seems like a combo queen and the really good players love her, but I can't figure her out.
B tier: Max. Again unsure how to use this guy. Maybe I just suck.
F tier: Axel. They done him dirty :(

I would say my 3 favorites are Shiva, Adam, and Cherry. I don't mind Axel too much, but I really wish all the characters could run like in 3. It drives me nuts playing as characters who have to walk everywhere

I love Axel in SOR4, but I agree that they did him wrong. He can destroy bosses though. The update where they had him able to hit enemies on the floor with grand uppah really helped out.

Once Shiva came out though, it is VERY hard to go back to Axel.

I like all of axel's moves and his general design but he just seems to slow/too risky to be viable in any difficult mode.

Ned to buy it cause I love love love beatemups.

I think the best one of recent years (or at least the one with best combat) is Mother Russia Bleeds.

The only thing about SoR4 is I don't like the art style. I wish they had gone the Sonic Mania route and made it with pixel art.
