remind me again why people support this shite company?

i havn't used a sim card in my google phones for a couple years now. I just use the internal e-sim, but still have the option to use a normal one if I so choose.

i don't know what "e-sim" entails but the sooner we can get rid of the physical need to switch out an annoying mini card just because we want to use another phone company, the better.

you do realize, that iphones without a physical sim means that there will be no swapping between devices.

youd have to go to the apple store or get an individual plan for each device you use.

so there isn't an easy way to transfer your current plan to another device like with a login?

You can easily switch esim between devices. I don't know wtf TC is on about.

Pixel already has this option. So do Samsung phones but they're fucking locked in the US for some moronic reason. Though they're finally opening it up on some models with One UI 4.

theres no benefit to SIM cards nowadays. E-sims are superior in every way. Imagine being able to switch carriers any time you want, with no delay. No lock in contracts. Pay for just a single day or even less if you want. SIM cards are old tech and theres no reason to continue using them. Its an inevitability they will be gone, so the sooner the better.

having said that, lmao @ the clowns hating on Apple for being the first one to do it. And lmao @ them even more for grasping at a rumours website to fuel their impotent rage towards them, especially for something thats a good thing

the sim card is used pretty much only for authentication to the cellular network I believe. there is a "sim card" built into the device now that serves the same function. It's also improved on a traditional sim card, in that its all digital now, you can have multiple "sims" per phone, and the tech allows for things like signing up for a plan over the internet (no need to go into a store), makes it easier when travelling since the idea is to move towards ideas like signing up for pay-for-use plans (like pay for 10GB for a week out of the country as an example, and then not have that plan anymore when you're back home on your regular plan) etc

This is going to be great for someone like me. If Apple does this then pretty much every provider is going to switch to eSIMs quickly. I change phone plans once every one or two years to take advantage of new customer deals.

E-sim is better than physical.

I'm cool with eSIMs across the board, I think. That's how cellular smartwatches work anyway.

I do like the seemlessness of just popping in a card and it working

But why does it have to be any different than having a username and password to access the service? For security reasons, I like the SIM card though. Hard to two-factor-authenticate a cell phone service comfortably

Does that not have to do with the snapdragon chip not being sold outside of the US and a handful of other countries?

I have eSIM functionality on my Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra that my carrier enabled a few months ago. It always had the capability from a hardware perspective, but it was up to my carrier to actually flip the switch.
