I watch some pet videos and through my life have owned most things people would have as pets.

That being said, all those tarantula videos with them being aggressive has me puzzled.

Those aren't pets you normally handle so opening the enclosure would mean food time for them, plus the small habitat means you are going right into their crap when you open it up. So all of a sudden you ring the dinner bell and get up in their face, of course they are gonna be aggressive.

So my question is, why aren't they in like a 10 long aquarium or something like that. Plenty of room so when you have to open the enclosure to feed them, you aren't in their immediate area.

I have a friend that he to have one. It started off as part of he science experiment. And then she kept it as a pet afterwards for a while. She did eventually give it away, though. But if I remember correctly, she would hold it and stuff. I never did. Im not scared of spider, but could never bring myself to let her put it in my hands. Haha. So I would say some are fine with smaller tanks because they trust their little friend

I don't think I would have anything as a pet besides a dog or cat, and maybe a ferret

My father recently got into them, and so did my son. They both know I have a phobia as one crawled into my sneakers that I left on the porch when I was 5. Luckily it was only twerking on my big toe when I tried to put it on. If it had been turned the other way around I suspect my phobia would be much worse.

So anyway, from what I understand they actually prefer cozier enclosures. Not all are as aggressive as you see on the videos. Just from the description of the videos you say youre watching I can almost guess who it is youre watching. Is it a young sounding guy with an accent that cant be placed? Usually says, Gee or Gosh a lot?

Theyre not for me, and Ive owned tons of exotics. Id much sooner get a scorpion before a tarantula.

My wife had one until it died about a year ago. It's a pretty boring pet. They don't really do much but they're cool looking I guess. We fed it crickets but they don't eat very often. She would hold it but I never would. They don't necessarily become aggressive just from holding them

I bet if you throw it on someone they would bite though!! Death by Taurantula!!

Then just be like, he got bit because he stuck his hand in the tank, and get away with murder.

Unless they make the spider testify...then your in trouble.

The best answer to a house with spiders in it is to just burn it down.

No, I'm arachnophobic. Can't stand to have them near me, though I don't hate them like I do mosquitos. I can still watch videos of them and such and be fine; I just can't have them in my space.

One of the more interesting things I've seen on Youtube is surgery performed on tarantulas. Sometimes animals that have exoskeletons fail to molt properly and get trapped in their old exoskeletons, and need them surgically removed.

I've thought about getting one, but they are surprisingly hard to get in my area. Can't just walk into a pet store and get one like a fish or a hamster.
