it's just not for me. i requested a refund, and they already approved it

probably not demon slayer now that i looked into it more. i already knew it was like the naruto games, which i did enjoy, but it's very short and for the price it's too short

Grim Dawn was great. It didn't really hold my attention the first time I tried playing it (made it through Normal, but drifted away when I started running into issues surviving in Veteran), possibly because I'd stopped playing PoE relatively recently, but I picked up the remaining two DLC's I didn't have back in January and gave it another shot. 400 hours later, I drifted away again, but I don't see that as a problem.

Eh, it's not that bad. Most significantly, it's almost impossible to permanently screw up a character even if you are struggling with some of the mechanics, so you've got plenty of freedom to just play around with it.

Grim Dawn is great. Yeah it seems pretty complicated at first but there are guides online to how to do stuff like with any RPG these days

This is a build I was playing earlier on in the current league.
I'll agree with it being overly complicated, but you can also run very simple builds, like I am running Righteous Fire (requires mostly uniques and requires activating an ability once per area) in a 10 day event right now and I'm 4th place in my Ascendancy.

I can't actually think of any mechanics that aren't adequately explained by the official manual, which is linked in-game. Guides can help to summarize and contextualize that better, so it's generally preferable to use them, but pretty much all of the information you need is there without relying on any external resources. There's no need to avoid having complex mechanics altogether just because it's harder to spoon-feed you an explanation without interrupting the game.

What was it that you found so confusing? I honestly can't think of anything in the first two hours that would really have been that hard to grasp.

I generally preferred GD to PoE. The fundamental loot philosophy is just more enjoyable to me, since most build-defining/enabling gear can be reliably target farmed. Coupled with the ability to freely respec, that makes experimenting with builds much more accessible.

didn't say it was confusing, it's just over complicated for no reason

basically i want the simplicity but depth of Diablo 3 without it being Diablo.

d3, despite being on PC first, was very clearly made with a controller in mind and it shows in how everything just works together without needing to go through guides

That's completely understandable. I have a friend that likes D3 but won't play PoE for the same reason. They are totally different games. I think a lot of D3 players like Alkaizer as he plays very simple melee builds while also being a good player.

I have like 20 toons up right now, but the best ones are my Oro Sacrifice Flicker Strike, my Quad Harpy Minion Army, and my Iron Commander Dex stacker (currently at 12x Ballistas)

I can second that. It's more in line with Diablo 2 in its skill tree structure, so more complex than D3, but it's still relatively simple by ARPG standards. It also doesn't blatantly pigeonhole you into certain builds with its itemization, which is nice.

Well, Diablo 3 is pretty simplified. Itemization is mostly through item sets and you are primarily focused on damage, which the game conveniently calculates for you. You don't really have to learn too much to play. But it is pretty fast pace and fun.

I always liked how flexible the itemization is in Grim Dawn. The fact that everything is sockable allows for a ton of choices in gear, since you can round out lower tier gear with them. There is also much more of a focus on defensive stats as well, since resists are huge in the game, so you have to balance damage and defense creating interesting item decisions. Plus the two character trees add a lot of different build opportunities. Weaknesses are that it is a slower game with slow level up times, so people tend to get bored with it. It is probably the slowest of the mainstream ARPGs
