I saw this! Pretty sweet that they're giving it some extra love but at the same time I feel like it's just teasing all the folks who probably wanted a full blown HD-2D for this game.

That's funny, I was just thinking about buying this FF1-6 bundle on steam, and came here to ask a question. I guess the bundle includes this unreleased version of 6?

Anyways, my question - What do people think about the 3D remakes of the early final fantasies? I was thinking about trying them. I haven't played much of the 2d ones except FFIV which I love. I saw on steam i can buy a regular FFIV and a 3D FFIV

....the 3D FFIV looks awful from what I see, so I'm leaning towards buying the 2d versions, but maybe its better than I expect. I think the 1-6 bundle is the 2d versions?

3D FF4 was okay for its time but like most early 3D games, 2D games have aged better than it. It's still fine though overall I'd say, though it does have some weird gameplay design choices with the new stuff it introduced. If you've played 2D FF4 before and want to experience it again but slightly differently, its not a bad way to do so.

3D FF3 is actually straight up worse than the original in pretty much every way, and its only gotten more so since pixel remaster.

8 or 9 probably.

assuming a somewhat loose definition for "remaster" the answer should be IX, VIII had a couple of PC ports that each upgraded the graphics at least a little bit over the previous release. IX only got the one remaster from a few years ago

Even with a stricter definition, I think it'd still be IX. VIII had a full-on remaster a little while back with upgraded models & graphics and QOL features, whereas IX has just had PC and console ports with mostly minor tweaks and fixes, I think.
