They cancel a show after the first season just because everyone doesn't flock to it as soon as it comes out. Which is stupid. I can understand it if they had ads that were attached to the newer shows, but they don't.

I have had a Netflix subscription since it was DVDs and that "new hot show" will most likely be watched by me EVENTUALLY. Its like they don't realize that having a library of completed series is better than trying out a new show and canceling it just because <insert what ever their target percentage is> watched the show in its first month.

It costs lots of money for a whole season. Directors, actors, etc. have their own schedule so they probably had a very short amount of time to decide if they wanted to order another season or not.

Never seen it. I was mostly thinking of Away. Which was pretty good, left on an open ended season for a second season and was canceled almost before it was even put on Netflix.

If they cancel a show after the first season it means that the show didn't do as well as other shows did with their first seasons. The idea that people will try a show long after it releases applies to all of them, so it's not really a relevant factor. In the event that a show gains a large cult following over time I would also expect them to bring it back anyway.

This isn't actually true, though, and they have the market research to prove it.

They get more subscriptions out of the allure of new content than they do "complete" series. It's always more profitable for them in the long-run to cancel shows after a couple seasons (after outside interest/hype fades) than it is for them to keep pumping resources into something that is no longer spurring new adoption. They're much better off using those resources to create new projects that might draw in new eyes.

And if a product is so bad or so reviled that it isn't drawing any new eyes, or is actively turning people away, they're far better off mercy-killing it than they are nursing it along in the hopes that it will eventually stop sucking.

It may not be the ideal scenario for the viewer, but Netflix doesn't actually care about the ideal scenario for the viewer. Their job is to run things in the ideal way for Netflix to profit.

I saw maybe 2 episodes (possibly 3) of the new cowboy bebop before giving up. I doubt they just up and canceled it because tons of people didn't watch it yet, I have not watched the new Witcher season yet for instance, they probably canceled it because tons of people, like me, watched a few episodes and gave up on it.

If people don't finish watching something, they are not going to care if another season comes out, and netflix can tell that, and cancel something that just doesn't hook people.

Some things they have canceled th ey were totally freaking wrong to cancel, I would not consider Cowboy Bebop as one of those things.

The one with the chick who exploded someones head? They were wrong to cancel that, it was just getting good.

Few other shows like that? Totally wrong.

Not this time though, at least in my opinoin.

Seems counterproductive, alot of people won't watch a 1 series show (or read a solo book etc).

I know personally there are many anime I have never watched ONLY because it already ended after 1 season. I feel like, why bother getting invested if the story is already over.

So yeah, I doubt they would generate more interest that way, it's probably the opposite.

In fact, if they already renewed it, THEN they would probably generate more interest and they could still cancel it later if not enough people actually liked it (wonder why they don't do that actually). If I knew there was another season of it coming up....nah, I really couldn't get into it, I still wouldn't watch the rest, but other people who were more on the fence might.
