so basically it's the equivalent of people using p2p to download songs back when CD sales were relevant source of income for artists. Except you're stealing art from a graduate who's probably in debt, eating top ramen, while smoking a pack of parliaments a day. But I think it's the value of marketing that gives the art it's value; not the artist's technical skills. Therefore, if someone is savvy enough to steal it and market it as a profitable NFT, then that person has earned the right to profit. If the artist was alone and wasn't selling before, would they have been able to do the same thing? Probably not.

If you can find a sucker dumb enough to pay to "own" a deviantart jpeg, good for you, even if that's just evil.

I mean NFT is pretty much a pump with no backed value. It takes considerable amount of marketing skill to get a mass amount of retailers to buy. Otherwise it's a great way to money launder. Person A sells NFT at a value of 1 million. Person B (someone rich so it doesn't look suspicious) buys at a value of 1 million with person A's dirty money. Person A splits the profits with person B. Rinse and repeat until all your money is clear.

I mean are there art curators for NFTs? How would they even begin to start pricing? Anyone can claim their NFT is a million dollars and entice a fellow launderer to take part in their agenda for a nominal fee.

They should have their asses taken to court for copyright infringement. The fun part will be when a judge orders that the artwork be purged from the blockchain.

what? all that did was take away income from the artists. but NFTs actually give the thieves a sizable profit for what they've stolen, it's not just there to listen to like music.

My understanding is that the art itself isn't actually stored on the blockchain, just a link to it or similar?

He doesn't work for them, but he does have major investments in them. With that being said - and to be clear, I have zero investment or other connection to this company myself (unless you count "referenced them in a lighthearted crypto-themed shitty flash-type game I made once") - I can also see the actual appeal. They're basically the digital equivalent of licenced action figures; I don't get the point in them (physical or digital) myself but there are people out there who absolutely eat that shit up.

I understand that some people see the appeal, but at the end of the day...a "digital collectible" is an oxymoron. You can't collect something that doesn't exist, because the idea of a collection is that you own it.

If the servers hosting that NFT ever go down, you won't own it anymore. You never owned it in the first place.

VeVe's app has only been live since October of 2020, and the market place was down for many months. They also didn't have regular, weekly drops until about last summer. And they've already hit over 1.3 million users with zero marketing. If you think NFTs are going away, you're sorely mistaken.

It isn't actually stored on the blockchain, but even then it has its own consequences. Does the seller have to pay a refund? Does the buyer still have ownership over a dead link?

No, the art itself should have value, not this marketing nonsense. And the person who created the art is the one who gave it that value. There is no justifying stealing from the rightful owner and using the pallid excuse of "well maybe they couldn't market it well anyway", that's theft and very low
