I was at my local game shop looking for a copy of Borderlands 2 GOTY, he could order one in but he was having trouble getting in contact with the place that has it. I didn't want to leave empty handed, especially since I hadn't been down there in so long, and I had a bunch of cash burning a hole in my pocket from a couple weekends ago - so I got Pokemon Brilliant Diamond.

I've been thinking about the gen 4 remakes recently, specifically about the glitchiness. Because some of my fondest memories of playing Crystal was breaking the fuck out of that game - cloning Pokemon until something went wrong and the game corrupted itself with glitch pokemon, trying to get Teru Sama with the same value as the GS Ball so I could catch Celebi, stuff like that. I love Pokemon games with duplication glitches - it harms no-one, and it's fucking awesome to pull off. Every Pokemon generation up to like gen 5 had a cloning trick, with gen 1 and 4 having the hardest tricks due to needing to trade.

But with that being said, gen 2 was fun because while they were exploitable due to the sheer wizardry required to cram all of that game onto one cart with the coding language they were restricted to - they were incredibly well-made.

The gen 4 remakes are as poorly received as they are because they're a side project squirted out by a mobile game publisher, so poorly made the physical copies shipped with placeholder music. Gen 9 and the gen 4 remakes are in the state that they are because the Pokemon Company has been chasing profits - the last properly polished Pokemon game in the franchise has been the Let's Go games, with fan backlash to those games causing Game Freak to go into overdrive and pump out Sword and Shield within a year of Let's Go coming out. Since then, the Pokemon games have been on very shaky footing.

So it's not entirely accurate to say that BDSP can be glitchy because the other games are glitchy and I liked that about them. There's technological ambition hampered by restraints of the platform, and then there's an external company making a 1:1 remake of a 10 year old game and fucking that up. Gen 2 is a labor of love, the gen 4 remakes are a hollow corporate product. That's not to say that gen 2 isn't a product or that gen 4's remakes haven't had a lot of time and effort put into them - but the difference is clear.

But saying all that, I still have a copy of Pokemon Shining Diamond. So in this equation, who's the bigger sucker - The Pokemon Company for rushing these remakes and getting even more bad press, or me for buying that shit anyway?

It means the updated music came with patch 1.1.

1.0 is borderline unplayable due to the extra lag. Though it's easier to dupe compared to 1.2(Which apparently still has duping)

I was gonna do a 1.0 run of the game, but - get this - not only is the post-Elite 4 content completely missing along with the proper music, but so are the opening AND CLOSING cutscenes of the game!

I deleted my online settings and everything so the patch wouldn't download. I'm gonna set that back up.

I would say to start the game with 1.0, duplicate a few important Pokemon, items, and TM's with the easier method, and then download 1.2 to improve the overall experience. There's still a way to duplicate stuff in 1.2, but the method to activate the Menu Glitch (which is what most of the other glitches branch off from) is more complicated to set up and requires being able to use Fly after getting the third badge.

Either way, look up BLAINES on Youtube. He has really good tutorial videos explaining how to do these glitches for both 1.0-1.1 and 1.2 as well. Like I said, most of them can still be done on 1.2, they're just more difficult to set up.

I honestly wanna put the game on ice until you can switch Exp. Share off. Chances are they'll never introduce that toggle, but at the same time I'm concerned about the balance of the game with the Exp. Share and it's just not as fun.

Also I just decided to download the patch, who cares about cloning when like a sixth of the game is missing without the day one patch. Actually experiencing the pre-patched game knowing that even the MUSIC is missing is just depressing.

The OP looks like pre-rendered video with artifacting. Is the video compressed, or is it just me?

I've been playing through it and tbh, as a Pokemon game, it's about just as good as the rest of them and still better than SwSh. Make of that as you will.

It's okay so far, i'm not a Pokemon fan, but my nephews like playing with me so I get the games so we can link up.

I'll admit, the game seems a lot less grating after downloading the most recent patch.

This shit can't become standard practice by any means, the unpatched game didn't even have a proper title screen when I booted it up. It's like they shipped it at 0.8 and called it 1.0 - shitty, shitty way to make games. This is an $80 game over here, you'd expect a fuckin title screen without needing a patch.

But now I'm firmly rooted in the adventure, it's honestly not too bad. I will say that the Pokemon models are pretty smooth and featureless, though.

Honestly, the only issues I've had so far after installing the patch relate more to the original games than to BD itself. It's kinda hard to grind up to the same level as the gym leaders.

I don't like the Exp. Share very much, but I do think they've implemented it well - lower level Pokemon get more XP, higher level Pokemon get less. That way, if you use a lower level Pokemon, it gets the lion's share of XP. You can still grind conventionally because of that.

The only truly egregious thing about them from a technical level is the collision detection on the world map. They're about as fun as the originals, just massively disappointing compared to the effort that went into every remake before them.

I'm on my way to the fourth gym and my pokemon are way over leveled. The battles are pretty trivial at this point and I can pretty much one shot everything with my Chimchar second evolution, forgot its name.
