I don't know how this could have happened so quickly. It's not like I was pouring hamburger grease down there or anything. Tried baking soda and vinegar but it almost seems like that made it worse

There are sooooooo many drain cleaners out there. Try some.

Edit: I meant in the sink. Mods like you get pissy about stuff like that

Everyone online says stuff like drano is really bad for the pipes and to never use it... gonna try plunging it but that seems unlikely to work

Call your landlord to get a plumber
Could have been something the old tenants were pouring down the drain.

All that chemical stuff will work, but if you want to 'take care of it' without just buying liquid plumber again and again, just buy a 'drain snake' or an 'auger'. You can get one for $20-$30 from a hardware store.

Chemical products won't ruin your pipes from one use, they literally wouldn't have a market if that were true. Please be smart.

Sure, if you don't want your security deposit back.

Really, for kitchen sinks plunger will work 90% of the time (just make sure it has a good seal and plug the other side if it is a dual sink). If that doesn't work, then just call the landlord and let him deal with it. You could try to fix it yourself but if you are renting it is the landlords problem, not yours.

It's not that they ruin your pipes, it is that they don't work as well as other methods. They have a very specific use and if you aren't using it for that then they suck.

And most kitchen clogs don't fit into that specific use. They will even say so on the bottles.

Just take the sink trap off and clean it.
Pair of pliers to loosen the caps.
Put a bucket or something under it so you don't get nasty sink water everywhere.
Use a pipe cleaner or a coat hanger to clear the pipe.
Put it back on.

Helps to have plumbers tape or something on hand if you're going to open the trap, particularly on older pipes

You do not need plumbing tape for sink traps, they have gaskets.

You only need tape if there is pressure in the line.

Which is why I specified older traps bruh my brother is a plumber I know what I'm talking about. Older traps can absolutely leak and if you don't want to replace them plumbers tape is a good temporary fix

Remove the trap, insert plumbing snake. If you can get a rotorouter snake (one on the electric ones) it might bust up what's down there better than the little hand crank snake.

If you're really unlucky the section of the drain has calcified solid and you will have to get it replaced; ask me how I know.

this although depending on your pipes it can be tricky to use. for my kitchen I have to get through the trap, go right like 5-10 feet and then turn right again while not going up the vent, and travel another 5-10 feet finally to where the clogs for some reason tend to form. I've only managed to make that second right turn successfully once.
