Depends on definition of end.

But people are too stupid to do even very basic and unobtrusive methods to get the virus to a level where we could lower spread sufficiently to escape the pandemic.

So the answer is not anytime soon. The only way it could possibly end now is by literally killing enough morons and using the pool of morons to mutate into a strain that is more contagious but significantly less deadly.

Probably not for a while. I mean it might be less strict again soon, but I imagine its still gonna suck into 2023 at least

I mean, we still have people that will not stay home when sick. So take from my post what you will.

Several years

Either it mutates to become less deadly and stops being a concern, or it mutates to become more deadly and governments are forced to actually do something about it

Honestly, Covid is likely here to stay. It's massive innate infection rate and respectable death rate is that I think the Flat Human Death Rate is going to permanently go up by at least 1-3%. For people that are alive today will probably see their expected lifespan lowered by up to 5 years.

Depending on how the individual Covid Strains mutates, it's hard to say, but I expect the general population to either immunized it sufficiently one way or another or just plain die. Hopefully, this means no particular variant can ever superspread AND kill in the same rates as when it was still a Novel Coronavirus since the global population should have enough antibodies of some sort to not just go septic if they catch it.

Masks during Winter might be a ubitiquous part of the yearly routine, and become part of the general "fashion" for possibly at least this entire decade, maybe more.

Covid Booster Vaccines become a yearly staple for High Risk populations, in the same way Flu Shots were before the pandemic.

Life will go on, but Covid will never truly leave our lives.

...To be fair, I think Humans having their lives ruined by diseases is the actually the norm for the entirety of human history. NOT having to worry about gruesomely being killed by Smallpox/Polio/Influenza/TB/Plagues/whatever is actually what's out of the ordinary.

Though I think people will go back to mostly normal lives by.... end of next year.

Pretty much this. In Florida it's basically been this way since June 2020 apart from masks. Masks stopped being worn a long time ago too though. I was genuinely surprised when I went to Asheville a few weeks back and they still had a mask mandate in place. I know it's Florida but for some reason I had it in my head that most places had gone back to normal by now.

Realistically though this is just going to be an endemic. I think there's always going to be some sort of COVID going around and we are just going to have to deal with boosters and masks being prevalent (but likely optional) in the future. I'd guess eventually it will get down to being a milder form but then every now and again a more deadly variant will pop up like with the flu (but obviously COVID is more serious than the flu)

It's pretty much already over in the US despite the media's attempts to continue fearmongering with new variants most people are protected from. Places without the silly mask mandates have lower COVID infection rates and few people wear them. I have never worn a mask (at least not after my suicide attempt / panic attack) so it doesn't bother me.

The data shows what the media refuses to. They want control, and people need to tell them to fuck off.

I think eventually almost everyone in the US at least will go back to not wearing masks again. I cant see it becoming a regular thing like it is over in some Asian countries where people do it out of courtesy and dont seem to be bothered by it the way some Americans act like theyre in oppressed countries taking away their freedoms

We're down to double digit cases and an average of 1 daily death here (Japan) and 99% of people still wear masks. Other than the travel restrictions things have mostly gone back to normal though

Life isn't ever going to go completely back to normal, particularly if you have the desire to not get really sick from COVID.

That said, for the most part, the tools are there to avoid the worst outcomes for most people, though the elderly and immuno-compromised are probably going to be extra-cautious for quite a long time. Just continue to wear masks in public, especially during winter months when every sort of airborne illness is out there, and stay current on your shots, and you can pretty much not worry about doing the things you do. You might eventually catch COVID, but it shouldn't kill you or cause permanent disability if you are doing the right things now.

I guess it depends on where you live. Certain suburbs and more rural areas might stop bothering, while Urban and certain Suburbs closer to Urban areas will probably continue to wear masks.

It's still pretty ubiquitous where I live, so I guess it depends on where you live.
