Back when SAO was big people loved to recommend it if for some reason you didn't love how awful SAO was.

I imagine it doesn't have any brother/sister incest so I'm not sure I see the appeal.

yeah I watched Season 1 years ago when it was the only one because people said it was SAO but not a total cringefest, I remember liking it but hated some of the dub VAs, I also have very little memory of what the plot was.

Oh, that sucks, I'm still at the very start. Wish they didn't start at such high levels that takes all the fun away (so far at least). I only have seen the first 3 episodes so far.

Not gonna spoil, but long story short: there are very, very little stakes... in anything. Whenever something big and bad happens, it's handwaved away like nothing even faster than the time it took to set it up. The main protagonist is basically a Gary Stu.

I'm generally not a fan of these "thinking man's isekai". Power fantasies should be shameless. Sounds like Overlord.

It's very much like Overlord. I mean, in Overlord, the protagonist and his npc's are so ridiculously overpowered that the only actual threat that happened was when one of them was turned against them. But at least Overlord had somewhat interesting characters, unlike Log Horizon which is basically the definition of generic garbage. Every single time I gave it a chance it felt like FINALLY they might be going somewhere only to end up in a big fat NOPE within 2 episodes.

But hey, do give it a fair chance, people have different tastes.

I stopped watching after the first season when they diverged from the light novels. First season was good, though.

Cry, I really love anime that involves being in a game/leveling etc. I was hoping this would be a good one I missed. I'll give the first season a shot but I'm reading Dungeon Crawler Carl series right now which rocks, so even a good anime would only get some of my attention.

I think I heard another season of Of Grimnar and Ash is going to come out soon, I need to look that back up, also never did finish Orc Slayer, so I guess I can slake my thirst a bit on that.

Don't really have the energy to actually play an MMO anymore....I know..that is really sad.....but instead I like reading litrpgs or watching anime about em.

When your too lazy to even play games, you know you are pretty much at rock bottom.

Bofuri is about playing an MMO, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime revolves around gamey systems. The spider isekai is mostly about the levelling process... except the anime also focuses a lot on the political side of stuff which is a lot more boring.

There's a ton more that heavily involve game systems, but the vast majority of them start out with a main character that is absolutely impregnable bringing over their level 99 characters into a world where the strongest are like level 40. The three up there... still kind of delve into OP territory, but at least there's a clear progression of power improvement.

There is an absolute fuck ton of isekai manga with a million different premises if you go searching there though.

Yeah I have watched Bofuri (thats the one with all into defense right? I know I watched it just not sure what it stands for anymore), watched reincarnated as a slime though that isn't as much game world as I like. Watched a witch one as well, and pretty much all the others lol, just my memory sucks but yeah I totally searched for any like that.

I just totally missed Log Zero, never even heard of it, which is whats so strange. Then again it's not on Crunch or Netflix/amazon etc, guess it's on Hulu but I didn't see it somehow.

I've also read all the mangas pretty much at least those available online. Many were totally awesome.

Positive side is that I forget stuff easily now adays so I can probably re-read alot of them again soon.
Same with rewatching some of the anime. I'm gonna re-watch Trigun as someone mentioned it on here and I did like it, and it's been years since I have seen it. I never did make it past the second world in Swordartonline though (once they started flying and his sister joined etc they lost me). I loved the first world though, and I may go back and try and watch it more. I watched Acelworld etc as well, and probably most of the others if not all of them.

But yeah Goblin Slayer/Of Grimnar etc where it follows a real fantasy setting with classes/levels etc are my favorite. I just recently jumped into the deep end of litrpgs by finding a group on facebook and now I have a freaking huge list of books to read (in the middle of book 3 of Dungeon Crawler Carl, but have like 20 something more books to read next). In fact here is my upcoming list of books, gonna do underverse next because everyone freaking loved that.

If anyone wanted to put together a list of good VR/Game/Leveling etc Anime though, that would be freaking awesome (Especially if it included where you could watch the damn things). I really should spend the time to do that for online manga/anime/books. I have this current list for Litrpg but it is missing major ones like The Land and He Who Fights With Monsters since I have already read them.

Underverse- simply badass
Red Mage Advent-fairly clean except for language
Shadow Sun-ooof this one got to me
Reborn Apocalypse-incredibly well done and unique system
Anime Trope System
Everybody loves big chests
Viridian Gates by James Hunter
Divine Dungeon and Completionist by Dakota Krout Divine Apostasy series-
book 1 is Shade's First Rule- by AFK Derek Reiner
The Wandering Inn series
Cradle series by Will Wright
Divine Apostasy (5 book series) Kindle Edition
System Apocalypse
Reincarnated as a Farmer
ShadeSlinger, Beast Realms, Thousand Li, War Priest, and Death Cultivator
World Tree Online - EA Hooper
The good guys series bad guys series.
kirill klavinski dragon heart series
dungeon lord series
Life Reset
Noobtown
The Iron Prince
A Touch of Power
Life in Exile
System Apocalypse
Monsters and Legends Infinite Realm, Book 1
completionist chronicles, io online, emerilia

I have read some of them on that list, like the dungeon core books etc, but they were part of other lists/recommendations on the litrpg group on facebook and I just copy/pasted em.

I have read a good 20-30 litprg series in the last year or so, but with my memory I can only remember a few. Also the Dodge Tank series isn't on there (But is good) and the 10 realms (includes guns etc but still mostly fantasy and rocks). I read Viridian gate or most of it. The Shaman litrpg books are not on there about a dude who gets stuck in prison vr as a miner but breaks free as a shaman.

Just too many really for me to remember unless someone mentioned the characters, I just can't actually remember names of books at all now, both because of my memory, and because I read them in eformat so don't actually SEE a book, just open kindle and read (so no title).

Sweet, I did a search for those kind of anime and found I'm standing on 1000 lives (which is on crunchyroll) with 24 episodes!!

I'm watching it now, already looks better then log zero (I will put that on a backburner for now as the first few episodes just were not pulling me in). Honestly don't really like any of the characters so far in it, and it almost has an Overlord like feel to it (I couldn't watch overlord, I tried, it was too cringe for me).

There are a few more on the list I have not seen as well, so should keep me going for awhile especially with all the litrpg books on kindle for me to read right now as well.

I really would like to get teleported into a game world. I was amazing back in the day, godlike in some ways, the actual creator of some of the Muds thought I had to be cheating because the things I would do were impossible heh. I was a minor internet celebrity.

So watching those anime and reading litrpgs about that stuff is really enjoyable to me. I was the first ever god emperor, something that was supposed to be impossible.....so yeah, I kinda identify with OP mmo characters.

Want to know the saddest thing about Log Horizon? They actually nailed the MMO aspect of it. What they say is not contrived or dumb, it's normal mmo shit that makes sense. The problem is the Gary Stu protag, the rest of the generic cast, the story, and the utter lack of urgency.

As far as Grimgar of Fantasy and ash, is a good isekai with a good manga and anime adaptation that really nails the mmo element as well as the emotional and social aspect that would happen in a group of people that not only are out of place, experience constant failure, and who really do not work really well together... initially. As someone who loves to heal in mmo's it really connected to me on a spiritual level...

Also, Barbara is best girl.

Hehe yeah, I gotta rewatch that. I may actually give Final Fantay another try sometime soon since I heard it's all free early on now (don't think it even has a monthly fee anymore). I just have not had the motivation/energy to play a MMO for awhile (since Phantasy Star online 2 came out in the US like...a year ago or so now).

I will give log horizon a shot eventually but yeah, I'm watching i'm standing ona million lives right now. Hasn't really pulled me in yet, it's another high school centered anime and that can get a bit old, but i'll give it a shot.

I'm also working on writing my own litrpg (written about 20 pages so far today) and still reading DCC so I am pretty busy (which rocks honestly). Also drove into town today as well. Love when I have a ton to do since it makes time fly by.
