For starters, it's not Steam or DRM-free. That's most of the problems people have.

Not much. It's lacking some Steam features (user reviews, friend integration), but if you don't care about those features, it's not really a big deal.

Plenty of reasons.
But for me personally, I am a simple man, I am only bothered by two things-
1.The inconvenience as I prefer to have everything in one spot. This is a minor reason
2.The lack of achievements. To some people this might seem like not a big deal, but I like achievements so much, that sometimes this is the only reason I buy a game instead of pirating it
I know it might sounds strange. But hey, we have at least 3 people in this board that are obsessed with Trophies, and this is as close as I can get to trophies, being a PC player and all
I did hear that they are kind of implenting them finally but not for every game so I wonder...

I think Epic has a shitty storefront and that buying exclusives is scummy, but my real reason is just long-term convenience. I bought a few games a decade ago on the EA launcher and the Ubisoft launcher but I haven't installed those launchers in years so I couldn't say what games they are. I don't want to have to remember to download seventeen different launchers when I get a new computer, so I try to keep everything on Steam as much as possible.

EGS added Achievements a couple months ago, incidentally. They've been adding missing features regularly, but extremely slowly. They only added a shopping cart a few days ago, for example.

They rolled out the shopping cart feature finally lol

Now if they just rid of tencent then it might be worth shopping on.

Tencent invested in Square a few years ago too so I guess you're done with their games as well.

I saw! Legit wonder if Epic forked over so much money that they just don't need to care about sales here. They've done the same with everything else that's been tied to EGS, interestingly.

Alex from Digital Foundry saying this is one of the worst AAA ports he has seen in years and imploring people not to buy it. Suddenly the exclusivity makes even more sense! Must be nice to have this on a platform with no reviews, especially if you're trying to sell it for $70 or more depending on regional pricing. (I'm still going to play it lol)

The impression I'm getting is that there's a lot of variety in performance. For some people it works great, but for others it works not so good.

Yeah I'm seeing some pretty curiously mixed stuff myself. Sounds like it may just vary wildly depending on your build, though stuff like dynamic resolution scaling being forced on is an obvious black mark in any case. I'll be interested to try it myself (likely this weekend) and see how things go.

i can't blame epic for buying exclusives- they have a steep hill to climb, but i think competition between storefronts is good

iirc steam dictates that if a game is on steam, it can't be discounted further anywhere else

i don't play much anywhere other than steam, and this includes gog, epic, origin, uplay, humble... but i'll accept their free games, and if there's a true exclusive that i'm burning to experience it's not like clicking on another launcher is a huge inconvenience

i prefer PC gaming because of the options, i can't hate on these extra storefronts as long as the launcher isn't a virus

But so far it doesn't look like being loyal to Steam is doing anyone any good. Anyone that refuse to use Epic is missing out

I'd prefer to have my stuff on Steam but I can't hate EGS for doing what it needs to in order to become competitive.

And if that means I get $10 coupons on shit for sales, I'm all for it. It's a little greyer now that Square is pulling this $70 BS, but that's not EGS to blame.

Just bought GOTG for $28 instead of $38 everywhere else thanks to the coupon, and I've done the same on other games in the past.

Game does look really good. Not many issues so far. Couple of hitches here and there for assets and the frame pacing is poor in some places but I havent dropped below like 110 FPS yet at 1440p.

Got started and played up to Chapter 3. (Perhaps important to note, I've been using the dynamic resolution disabler mod from the outset)

There's definitely some annoying (but very infrequent) stutter here and there but it's far from unplayable and outside of that is running at an absolutely gorgeous locked 120 fps for me. Explosive reaction this port is getting seems to be utterly unwarranted in my experience. Maybe it's sour grapes for the EGS exclusivity? Really don't know what to make of it unless it really is significantly worse on weaker hardware.

Couple that with apparently this initial release possibly being the dev build and not the final have some ppl complaining.

Been playing for a while, Im in the subway tunnels going to the second reactor. The game is fine. I think 70 dollars is an absurd price for it, but its fine.

Got to Aerith's house. I was wondering if they'd give her martial arts with her staff or magic, and wasn't surprised to see it was magic.

The first two hours or so of the game was one of the most magical gaming experiences I've had. Could not stop giggling with glee.

It doesn't recapture that joy too many times, but it's definitely there in spots.

Btw for people who complain about multiple launchers: https://www.gogalaxy.com/en/ will manage all of them for you (It still isn't perfect but it's a lot better than last time i checked)

I completed battle intel requests 1-9 (no option for 10 and on), and I'm at the Aerith in the slums section of the game. A guide says I should get the fat chocobo battle option now, but I have nothing. Am I missing something?
