The endgame revelations were pretty good and Midna being the title of the game is one of the most memorable things concerning a story for the series. Everything else is just average and nothing mindblowing. It is good enough for a Zelda game.

One of the better Zelda stories, in large part because of Midna's character. Some good world-building and probably the best crop of villains out of any Zelda game; Bulblin is a pretty great primary henchman, and Zant is great, though Ganondorf is a little too-tacked on here.

I can only think of negative things. I don't like Midna very much and she's basically the entire story. Zelda looks great but takes a weird backseat role. Ganon also looks awesome but the twist is kinda lame but Zant is also kinda lame so it's a lose-lose.

Some of the better scenes are in the beginning, but it's also too slow. Ilia amnesia plot is lame.

Compared to other Nintendo games though!

I still feel like the vast majority of video game stories amount to little beyond explaining why you go from Point A to Point B and I grade them mostly on that basis, hence why I gave Ocarina a 9. It's not entirely fair to judge them like films. Some of the only exceptions would be stuff like Metal Gear Solid 3, Shadow of the Colossus, and maybe some stuff I haven't played like Silent Hill 2 and Planescape: Torment. By that logic Zelda is more like Metal Gear or FF than Mario.

I look forward to them every day, and they have turned me on to some great stories.

It just feels really odd to me to see people here saying stuff like "story is not Zelda's strength". I feel like most everywhere else it is considered one of the franchise's strengths, which I agree with some way towards. Maybe because this board likes Ace Attorney and Metal Gear so much?

I still think Zelda is more comparable to Metal Gear than Mario in terms of being plot-driven. Or at least it's in an intermediate stage there.

Zelda stories are fun to experience, but I wouldn't call them particularly memorable most of the time. Majora's Mask is the only one that felt like anything other than a different variation of The Hero's Journey.

Some interesting pieces here and there but they mostly disintegrate as the game goes on and the story gets more generic. Making Zant 'crazy usurper guy' was disappointing, and Zelda and Ganon add absolutely nothing to the story and are just there because they're expected to be. Telma and the Resistance were cool but didn't do enough, and the game spends way too much time on Ilia early on for her to just fall away by midgame. Midna is decent but I don't love her the way many seem to.
