It is one of only four Adventure abilities to never return, the others being Backdrop, Light, and Star Rod. However, the other three abilities all have reasons for never returning, whereas Ball has no excuse and was just straight-up scrapped. Backdrop has a successor in the form of Suplex, and a counterpart with Throw. Light was a limited use ability that did no damage and was only useful in two rooms. Even then, that usefulness could be debated. You can go the entire game without using it, which I bet many people did. Also, it has a successor in the form of Paint, which ALSO never returned after its initial appearance(Super Star). Star Rod was a final boss weapon. Final boss weapons never come back. Ball, on the other hand, just never came back. Kirby has become a ball (Pinball Land, Dream Course, Block Ball, Canvas Curse) and functioned like a ball (Tilt n Tumble, Rainbow Curse) in numerous spin-offs and side games, even beyond those Ive mentioned, but the Ball Copy Ability has never, ever returned, perhaps because it would be thought of as redundant with all these games where Kirby acts like a ball. The ability worked a little different from most in Adventure. You pressed the attack button (B) to transform into a ball, which could be done at any time. However, the actual attacking was done with the jump button (A). While in ball mode, instead of jumping you would bounce. Continue to hold the button and you would bounce higher and faster. If Kirby had enough momentum, he would gain invincibility frames and be able to hit enemies, including bosses. However, if he did not have invincibility when he made contact with an enemy, he would get hurt. (When I was younger, I disliked this ability because I found it impossible to hurt an enemy without hurting Kirby himself. Now that Im older, I have more of an appreciation for Ball, although I still have trouble figuring out the physics and I dont use it often when playing Adventure.
