I've got some lessons learned from last winter and I'm trying to make sure I'm more prepared this time. I've got a heated coat and a heated skull cap. If we do have a freeze, I'm gonna break out the candles immediately to help keep warm.

Gonna also get a battery powered generator pretty soon.

electric blankets are the most cost effective way to stay warm.

if you have exterior steps consider some rock salt for melting ice / snow

so I've had electric blankets in the past and they've always stopped working within a few hours to a couple weeks. So I stopped buying them

No, get a large generator and hook it up to your gas so you never lose power.

I feel like the only way to prepare is to move out of the state altogether. It's just not equipped with the infrastructure to deal with this, and your governor has indicated no interest in addressing the problem.

I think at the point where you have enough candles to provide sufficient heat, you're gonna be getting enough heat from the building burning down around you to render them kinda moot

I live at 9500 feet and my winters are 9 months long. This year is the warmest winter I have ever seen for the 25 years I have been here. I think Global Warming is upon us. Its not normal for it to get up to 50+ here in December.

I was just shocked that Texas gets as cold as it does where I'm at if not colder As that person said that 32F was the minimum for cold.

Candles won't keep you warm. I recommend buying some flameless heating packets. Same kind the military uses for MREs.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N1CI1FU/

Note that you don't actually need the container the instructions say you need. Any similar glass / pyrex / stone tub will work just fine.

Use this to cook some canned soup and that will keep you warm.

These things give off hydrogen gas when used so make super extra sure no candles are lit when you use this.

You can also just buy MREs with the heaters. The food won't perish in the event you're stuck without power for days.

Candles are meant illuminate, scent or essence not heat. But there is a way to radiate heat from one but you need other material other than just the candle though look it up on TouTube

Yeah, I'm aware they won't give much heat, but it's better than nothing when inside is just as cold as the outside and it's 6 degrees outside.

They passed a law to make weatherization happen

Except

They included a method of paying about $150 to not have to weatherize anything.

So you can pretty much guess what happened. They say they finally closed that loophole on 12/1, but... probably too late. If they even did it.
