I'm wanting to play P3FES and my BF wants a guide so we can complete it as much as possible, not miss stuff, etc. But in this it seems like the main thing that's missable is S-links, and from everything I'm seeing, to do all those in one playthrough is to follow the guide exactly and never play the social part of the game yourself. The overall guide doesn't tell you things to do either. It's focused on what happens each day and advising you on S-link goals. I'm not sure how to approach this. In the past I always just improvised S-links and didn't worry about it. So how do we approach this game?

FES has almost no margin for error in a max S-Link guide. You literally end up with like 2 spare days if you follow a 100% guide.

So yeah, if you want to do 100% you're going to need to follow a guide to the letter. If that's a dealbreaker for you then that's okay, just go in knowing you're not likely not going to even get particularly close to all links maxed.

Yeah, that's what the guide is for. No room for error. Missed one day by mistake? Let's hope you have a lot of backup saves.

Yeah, if you're only going to play this once and you want to max all S-Links in one go, following the guide is a must because there is virtually no room for error.

Your options are:
1. Follow a MAX S-Link guide to the letter, without deviating from it
2. Do a second playthrough, where you have slightly more leeway. Keep in mind this is a 100+ hour game and that the extra leeway only amounts to a few days in-game, so you're still gonna need a guide.

Like everyone else, I say go with #1, because the S-Links in FES were not very well-designed for a multitude of reasons. It's considerably better in P4 and P5, where you can have a month of days left over. You can actually play the "social" aspect more.

You don't need a guide for anything other than the Social Links. Dungeon floors are randomly generated (including chests) and there are a few side places where there's not much to miss.
