sequel trilogy hitting its low points after a not-so-bad start is more tragic than the prequel trilogy starting off on two bad feet but ending w/a passable movie. it is not a fair comparison

I feel like 90% of affection for these 2 movies is actually directed at all of the spinoff media that came out of them, but that doesn't make the actual movies any less garbage

i agree TPM isn't perfect but it had a decent idea in the prequel movies showing that the jedi aren't pure saints and they are flawed plus this scene is my fav showing how the seeds were planted to kill the republic

Attack of the Clones was easily the worst Star Wars movie, by far, until The Rise of Skywalker was released.

I remember being hyped as an elementary school kid watching TPM and then being totally confused about what it was all about or why it was Star Wars.

And then my brother bought the Phantom Menace computer game and that was actually kind of fun but it still didn't really explain anything.

They're really not. All of the prequels and all of the sequels suck.

What I appreciated about TPM compared to TFA (because I never saw the other two movies in the PT or ST lol) was that Lucas at least tried to do something different with it. It wasn't *good*, but at least it explored new territory. It wasn't just another rehash of good guys vs bad guys and the bad guys have a planet destroying super weapon.

Also it did spawn some decent games, like Pod Racer and whatever that PC game was.

if you ignore the 'romance' plotline in attack of the clones the movie isn't horrible. with phantom menace, aside from the epic lightsaber fight at the end i'd say it was the weakest of the prequels. either way.

I still feel like the whole stuff with Anakin's mom should have been handled differently.

For as long of a movie as AotC is, one of the most important scenes in Anakin's character development is just kind of shortchanged so we can get more scenes of rolling in the grass <__<

I'd have kept the same premise but actually had Anakin get to his mom before she got taken, have your standard reunion scene, use that as an excuse to have Anakin let his guard down, and then have her taken early morning and have her already be dead by the time he gets to her, making his decision to go ham on the sand people and his fall that much more convincing.

The whole thing just never seemed to gel nearly as well as it should have.

Phantom Menace is a by a long way the worst Star Wars film. It's essentially a 2 hour long toy advert loosely set in the Star Wars universe.

Attack of the Clones was boring and definitely the next worst SW film, but at least it felt like they were trying to do something other than sell toys to kids.

I always loved that line Lisa says in an episode of Simpsons that makes fun of the prequels, I cant believe the Gathering Shadow was Senate redistricting..

I do have a soft spot for menace though, since I saw it as a kid.

I can't stand the spinoff material, myself. When it comes to the prequel movies versus the Clone Wars cartoon, it's the difference between a really bad movie made for ages 8 and up, and an intermittently half decent cartoon aimed at kids 7 to 12 years old. I just can't with the latter.

Virtually everything about the sequel trilogy is better than the people trilogy.

Ironically, its the funniest movie in the trilogy because it takes itself so seriously but its still really dumb and silly.

Exactly. It's so self-serious and it's also horribly acted and dumb at the same time. They were going for an epic operatic feel and it missed the mark.
