...and lived off of instant ramen before making it big in Hollywood...for 5 and 1/2 years

"Marvel star Jeremy Renner said that pre-fame, he sometimes had a monthly food budget of $10 and ate instant ramen.

"I had no electricity, no gas, no hot water," Renner told Men's Health of living in a studio apartment in Hollywood for five-and-a-half years before his acting career took off. "So I learned to play guitar. I lit candles. I made a vibe out of it"

The actor said that he made the most of his living situation because "if I sat and cried about it, which I probably did once or twice, it doesn't really move the needle. Changing and shifting your perspective that's the only thing we have control of in perpetuity."

Renner's interviewer, Alex Bhattacharji, wrote in his cover story that "at times, Renner says, his entire monthly food budget was $10. He'd live on a case of Top Ramen and maybe treat himself when McDonald's had its two-burgers-for-25-cents special."

"I always thought, At least I'm doing a job that I love," the star said. "I'm glad I'm not doing a job just for a paycheck. That'd be fucking miserable. And most people are."

Renner's first-ever professional acting role was in the 1995 movie "Senior Trip," in which he played a slacker.

He went on to appear on shows like "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Angel." Renner also portrayed real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the 2002 movie "Dahmer."

But it was his role as Staff Sergeant William James in 2008's "The Hurt Locker" that changed his career trajectory.

Renner earned an Oscar nomination and a SAG Award nomination for the part. His role in Ben Affleck's 2010 film "The Town" further added to his growing popularity, and he landed additional Academy Award and SAG nominations, plus a Golden Globe nod.

Renner made his Marvel debut as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in 2011's "Thor."

He reprised the role for "The Avengers," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: Civil War," and "Avengers: Endgame."

Renner will return as the archer for the upcoming standalone Disney+ series "Hawkeye," which debuts on the streamer on Wednesday."

I feel like near exclusive Ramen for so long probably did some permanent health damage with such a weak nutritional profile and excessive sodium.

Living off $10 a month tells me you either got a stupid amount of pride or literally not one person gives a fuck about you >_>. Tle latter is even more said than having to live off the $10 itself

I don't know how you come to such stupid conclusions, but sure go with that instead of looking into what it takes to make it in Hollywood when you're poor.

If he survived on that, I dread to imagine what the homeless are given to eat. I actually went to the same high school as Renner, BTW. Maybe he can do a horror documentary film on my time there.

The whole vibe of the guitar playing and candles should have helped combat that.

Off topic and dumb aren't the same thing lol. Admittedly, I don't usually read the stories before posting when articles are this long, many don't. But you're not judging my conclusion, you're judging my lack of answering the topic how you want people to.

Now, if you want to talk about why what I said isn't logical, we can do that. Or you can just address the people who are talking in the direction you want them too, which is also fair. But actually dispute why what I said is stupid if you're gonna come at me with that angle.

Seriously. For some people having that kind of cheap option, while not the best nutrition wise, is still better than starving. Being able to stretch a dollar and eat can make someones day.

...What the hell are you on? There's nothing to "answer" here. I wasn't looking for any specific response at all. But this response I'm getting from you right now is part of the whole "stupid conclusions" I mentioned earlier. The leaps you take are ridic.

It's a silly leap to go from "I occasionally had a small food budget" to assume they are too prideful or that no one cares about them. Living in LA is expensive. You don't know how much help he got from others. Sometimes things go down and for a month or two and you just don't have enough money to go around. Even with a job and someone helping. You can easily make too much money to get official assistance too.

There's just too many things that can happen and that do happen on a regular basis that makes your conclusion dumb as hell.

Again, not at all looking for an angle for people to tackle this.

True. That's all you had to say lol. I dunno if you're under the assumption my first stance is always a hard stance, but we could of avoided the pointless back and fourth >_>.

My initial thought was "If he needed more food money, how the hell do you not find someone to give you an extra $20 a month until you get back on your feet if you got people who care for you.". But you're right, if you are already getting that help from others and allocating it to different problems like having a place to stay, you could already exhaust that option. I was thinking how Id prioritize, instead of how someone trying to make it in Hollywood might.

Edit: looking back, you had hinted at it lol. But the elaborating helped. I'll admit,I was off on this back and fourth

I see your edit. I was gonna say I kind of did, but didn't want to write out so much at once. I wasn't even going to respond to your second post at first(because that defeats the purpose of my drive-bys, and also because I don't like typing too much) but I had to take a shot so I thought "what the hell?" and gave it a go.

Oh yeah, I'm sure after nearly 5 years of being homeless I'm just one heel-click away from being part of the MCU myself.

It's great and all that his life turned around, but it rubs me the wrong way when he acts like upwards mobility can happen to just anybody at anytime. Not everyone has that kind of luck.

I get what you're saying, but after all, he's a decent actor and most people are not honestly. And I've heard before that many actors got it out the mud.
