They didn't manipulate the game to play for longer than five minutes. They beat the timed demo before the 5 minutes elapsed.

That seems like a fun idea, to make challenges in games that are technically beatable in a certain amount of time with specific items at a specific time in the game and see who can do what.

I'm more surprised it wasn't done ages ago when the Ganon warp was discovered. There was some interest in the challenge, mainly seven years in five minutes where someone got the master sword as kid link.

It took me a year and a half to beat OOT and I was even using guides! The speedrunning community is something else!
