Kyle had previously sobbed uncontrollably after telling his side of the story to the jury He took to the stand on the 8th day where attorneys are expected to present evidence the murder was out of self defense as he and his father, Gregory McMichael and neighbor, William Bryan Jr attempted to conduct a citizen's arest of him under their suspicion that he committed a burglary The 35 y/o said "I wanted to give my side of the story" as the former coast guard petty officer said he was in a life or death battle on the roadway after the duo tusseled over control of his shotgun before he pulled the trigger He said "I was thinking of my son. It sounds weird, but that's the first thing that hit me" He confirmed that they followed him after 25 y/o Arbery switched back 3 times and the pair interacted as Travis claimed he repeatedly told him to stop Eventually Arbery went out of sight around a dogleg bend in the mainly white community as Travis parked his pick up with his father in the flatbed telling jurrors that at that point he did not want to escalate the situation but then arbery ran back into sight and towards the son and starts fighting over the shotgun Travis then tears up and said he was thinking of his son and that he can't leave this earth knowing he might die as he wiped off tears on his face and said "I shot him. He had my gun. He struck me. It was obvious that he was attacking me, that he would have got that shotgun from me, it's a life or death situation. I wanted to stop him from doing this so i shot him" Arbery was shot once under his armpit according to the medical examiner before being shot twice more They claim there has been a rash burglaries in the area and said Arbery looked suspicious and not from the area so that is why they pursued No evidence has emerged that Arbery took anything from them or the property in question as the owner of that property said arbery may have stopped to take a sip of water at the water faucet there It's also revealed that Travis yelled the N-WORD and their father's truck had the confederate flag on his vehicle.
