Because Tesla has far greater margins on their cars, they have much bigger ambitions than making cars, they've already done the hard part of building factories that are just now coming online, while other auto brands will go bankrupt before they can spend a decade retooling their factories for EVs.

This is why Toyota has completely given up and is spending their capital on lobbying against green infrastructure/EV adoption instead of investing in battery factories. It's already game over and they're delaying their curtain drop.

Investors are willing to pay a higher multiple for a company poised to dominate the future over a company that is currently dominant but has no shot at existence in the coming years.
