Snippets:

Many in the vice president's circle fume that she's not being adequately prepared or positioned, and instead is being sidelined. The vice president herself has told several confidants she feels constrained in what she's able to do politically. And those around her remain wary of even hinting at future political ambitions, with Biden's team highly attuned to signs of disloyalty, particularly from the vice president.

Few of the insiders who spoke with CNN think she's being well-prepared for whichever role it will be. Harris is struggling with a rocky relationship with some parts of the White House, while long-time supporters feel abandoned and see no coherent public sense of what she's done or been trying to do as vice president.

Defenders and people who care for Harris are getting frantic. When they're annoyed, some pass around a recent Onion story mocking her lack of more substantive work, one with the headline, "White House Urges Kamala Harris To Sit At Computer All Day In Case Emails Come Through." When they're depressed, they bat down the Aaron Sorkin-style rumor that Biden might try to replace her by nominating her to a Supreme Court vacancy. That chatter has already reached top levels of the Biden orbit, according to one person who's heard it.

She's perceived to be in such a weak position that top Democrats in and outside of Washington have begun to speculate privately, asking each other why the White House has allowed her to become so hobbled in the public consciousness, at least as they see it.

But, with many sources speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the situation more frankly, they all tell roughly the same story: Harris' staff has repeatedly failed her and left her exposed, and family members have often had an informal say within her office. Even some who have been asked for advice lament Harris' overly cautious tendencies and staff problems, which have been a feature of every office she's held, from San Francisco district attorney to US Senate.

As CNN has previously reported, Harris herself has said she didn't want to be assigned to manage the border, aware that it was a no-win political situation that would only sandbag her in the future. But Biden's team was annoyed that Harris fumbled answers about the border, including when she gave an awkward, laughing response about not visiting it during a spring interview with NBC's Lester Holt.

Several Biden campaign aides spoke of putting "a blanket" around Harris after she was picked as the running mate last year, and advised against bringing on staff from her presidential campaign, though the final decisions around hires and structure were left at her discretion. That's left her with just a handful of current aides who knew her before she was vice president-elect, and they don't know her well. Feeding dissension internally, many suspect each other of putting their own career interests ahead of hers, or of performing to try to build their relationships with her on the fly.

Damage control started quickly at least:

I mean, she basically rocketed up the ranks and many in the party establishment were eager to anoint her the next great thing, a sort of fusion of all the best qualities of Obama and Hillary Clinton.
But it turns out that the establishment is terrible at cultivating people who aren't transparently rank careerists and Harris in particular has negative charisma and surrounded herself with ex-Clinton flunkies. She's now under the thumb of a dude with a troubled past in regards to women and black people who is also famous for valuing familiarity and loyalty over all else.
The same dude she correctly skewered for opposing desegregation which was a genuinely great line that she immediately sabotaged by saying she basically agreed with him lol.

Literally the next to weakest candidate in the democratic debates and held no real affect to the election because the game came down to Trump. Vs. NOT Trump.

Of course this was a bad decision 10x over to nominate her.

I don't think this is that rare, lol. The very first VP hated his job and was notably pissed at the president.

(Just for fun, John Adams on George Washington:
"That brat of a Scottish peddler! His ambition, his restlessness and all his grandiose schemes come, Im convinced, from a superabundance of secretions, which he couldnt find enough whores to absorb!")

I think part of the problem is that KHive types and quite likely Vice President Harris herself expected and anticipated that she was going to be groomed to succeed Biden as soon as 2024, and she would have a policy portfolio and stuff to do.

But there was never any reason to expect any of that and the Biden administration just plain doesnt do much anyway. Worse, Harris has managed to flub what few choreographed appearances she has made, which is on her and her staff.

It was likely not just a bad decision, it'll have catastrophic effects on the party and for the country. As the former VP, she'll probably be annointed during the next Presidential primary despite being highly unpopular. Other, potentially better candidates will be scared to run against her.

The only ones who will run will be crackpots with ambission trying to attack from the right or Squad adjacent people who will gain just enough support to divide the party and be caricatured by opponents.

I'm pretty sure basically any Republican could beat Harris because she has no natural constituency beyond Democratic Party staffers.

Should've been Warren or Klobs. Love em or hate em, they actually had to fight for their positions and have experience in government, unlike Harris.

Apart from those two I struggle to think of another VP pick he could've made that would've worked out.

Though it was a dumb idea to limit it to only women in the first place.

I'm sorry.

That gaff still doesn't invalidate the sentiment that it's a stupid idea to say you regret choosing the person who is supposed to be the next president of the US. It's not like they're going to call up Bernie Sanders and AOC if they want to run in 2024. It's Harris or Trump. (And I'm hoping Harris.)

VPs are supposed to be forgettable. If theyre remembered as VP and not for something afterwards it means something went wrong. Al Gore is mostly remembered because of the recount election and his climate change stuff, but that was all after his term as VP. Cheney is only remembered for his war crimes (bad thing). Most others are forgotten. Hell I already forgot Mike Pence existed.

She doesnt seem to be popular with the general public. The voter base would have elected a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if it was what it took to oust Trump, so she really came along at the most opportune time.

The question is who will step up after Biden? Hes said that he doesnt want to run again (I think he would be like 92 at the end of eight years), but everyone acted like Harris would be next in like. If the general public doesnt like Harris, then who will win? We are at a point where we need strength and we cannot keep prioritizing the first over the best.

I'm sorry, did Vice President Harris not criticize President Biden for opposing federally-mandated busing to combat segregation, then not say she doesn't support federally-mandated busing and not produce some word salad about how it was necessary then but not now, essentially ruining her own point?

FYI: https://www.epi.org/publication/schools-are-still-segregated -and-black-children-are-paying- a-price/
Segregation is practically as big a problem now as it was in the '60s and '70s!
