Maybe it's because I'm used to NYC but anytime I visit almost any other city I'm shocked with how extremely quiet it is, especially at night. You have to take transportation in because if you drive you're gonna get slammed by like 5 different toll roads and bridges. I say this as someone who's been to NYC countless times, and someone who's lived a short distance from it for most of their life. The layout of the city itself, its infrastructure, how dense it is, how expensive it is, and how corny it is these days takes a lot away from it.
