I've never observed daylight savings time, as I grew up in Arizona and now I live in Japan which doesn't have it at all

I would like the U.S. to abolish it so I don't have to remember which time zone conversion to use

Yeah, I want Daylight Wastings Time abolished. I don't like the idea of wasting daylight early in the morning - I want it lighter later. If we didn't spring forward, we would have it be light out at 4 am in June, which is why the push is to get rid of Wastings time.

The problem is that the Standard Time Act is gonna make that messy.

There's no such thing as permanent DST. What you want is to move forward one timezone.

I personally support permanent DST (more light in the evening) but it definitely seems like eliminating DST is the more common opinion that people hold.
that's only because they mistakenly think the period we're about to enter is DST

While one is preferable to the other I'd be fine with anything that isn't the abomination we have now.

DST is a next level stupid concept, and it blows my mind that there are people who "stan" for it out there. Eliminate DST, hell eliminate time zones in general, Just do everything in UTC time

It doesn't help that since we extended DST, we spend about 2/3rds of the year under DST, so which is really the default setting now?

Losing daylight savings time is preferable to keeping it on permanently, at least as far as studies have shown..

Granted, my country is technically using the wrong timezone anyway (due to us being stuck to Europe as a whole). So we already have somewhat longer bright afternoons but also longer dark mornings

Getting saddled with even more time slippage would be annoying to say the least.

(also we call it summertime and wintertime over here... which led some people to make the stupid logicleap that we should keep summertime because 'who likes winter?')

Winter does suck. And a lack of daylight as the day progresses really messes with my depression. I tend to sleep past dawn, so I honestly don't care when daylight starts, but even when I was in school, it being dark out vs not dark out was really a total non-factor in my life. Being dark at dinner -- and my parents ate dinner pretty early -- combined with being bleaker throughout the day takes its toll. February is universally my worst month of the year because I've been enduring several months of this crap. And then DST hits and the days naturally start getting longer, and my life moves on. But damn if I'm not functionally useless, bordering on suicidal, in February.

Therefore, I'm all for keeping DST year-round. Or, as KingButz puts it, moving ahead a timezone.

I propose we move permanently to a clock that is exactly half an hour between daylight savings and standard time. That will leave everyone angry and confused - the hallmarks of a great compromise!

Going back to standard timezones without DST is preferable because it aligns most closely with surrounding timezones. To give an example, Ontario is talking about getting rid of DST, but going to a permanent DST. The problem with that, is now when you go to the next timezone (which is actually technically before the Manitoba border) it will be a 2 hour time skip as you would be going from UTC-4 to UTC -6

Also, there's the stupidity of having places like Toronto/Windsor being in the same time zone as Halifax/the caribbean.

I mean, the obvious solution to this problem is for everyone to go to permanent DST!

How about we just shift time ahead far enough that the sunrise happens around 1 or 2 PM. Sure, the dark mornings might take some getting used to, but just think of how much time you'll have in the sun after work!
