There are some things that many people take for granted that I don't enjoy. I don't enjoy close relationships with other people or beings for example. I'm not a "touchy-feely" kinda person - I prefer keeping my distance from others. I try to appear enthusiastic in social situations but maybe I'm just faking it? I don't smile a lot. Among other stuff.

I've read that such things make a person "soulless"....

you could probably stand to be more in touch with your feelings, though. if you wanted, art and activities where touching is involved could be a first step. it'd be uncomfortable for a while but it could have a good payoff.

Some people are aromantic or just hermit types. Nothing wrong with that. Trying to reach out to at least one or two people as friends would be nice in case you ever need help. But if that's how you're built, there's nothing wrong with that.

Like for what it's worth, I love physical touch and sometimes I just can't vocalize anything at all so I sit there in awkward silence with some people. But with one partner in particular, I really don't need words at all to communicate. We just sort of are on the same wavelength and could understand one another within an hour of me first being at her place.

No, even if souls exist they are not tied to your emotions or dealings with strangers.

Those things you mentioned likely happen due to trust issues or having gone through a traumatic experience or betrayal.

Everyone is the naive, happy-go-lucky, goof until they find themselves in a situation which changes their world view and opens them up to the terrible nature of this reality.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I think this may be what I'm going through. I have several phobias and anxiety which I think are the result of trauma.

I think you are just so used to being by yourself that it's made you selfish to point you only care about yourself. And going out of your way to meet people in the middle is uncomfortable. I think you do desire it (humans are social), but you don't want to work for it because it's out of your comfort zone. You are too comfortable with yourself. Not good for you long term. Watch this

what i think i'm reading is a lot of self focus and not a whole lot of relating to or through others -- but you said that yourself.

i think you'll have less time to feel soulless and miserable if you try to relate to others a little better. people are worth getting into -- they're interesting.

The more you and other people believe in yourselves, the less it matters whether anyone else (your opponents) does. That goes for anybody. The stronger you become, the less you care whether you lose anyway. Maybe it was a good battle. Maybe youll win next time. A close call. You learned something. You did your best. Gave it your all, sort of thing. Tried so hard it ruined the opponents victory, basically.

That simple fact is strong enough to move mountains with people. Its not about hating your enemy. Its about believing in yourself strongly enough to make an impact.

Soul in a technical sense is just mind, usuaaaaaally. Obviously everyone has a mind but the difference is the extent to which people think for themselves and make their own values. Think of your soul as an axiological ideal unique to yourself. But not everyone is so unique in reality that we seem them as ideals because they aren't fully expressed, or done so poorly.

It has very little to do with how social you are...
