If there were a sports team with a Zulu warrior theme and the fans had a Zulu themed war chant with bow and arrow or spear type movements I wouldnt be offended personally. Cringe maybe but dont see whats offensive about it. I mean itd be offensive if the other team were native Americans and they were doing the tomahawk chop against the team. Again, I cant actually hear what theyre saying so unless the chant itself is saying anything offensive I dont really see the issue. I think it would be more of offensive to not even have them in any capacity in your media or sports landscape at all. Not every portrayal of Native American culture has to be seen as appropriation or negative either. Sure there can be some engagement with Native American community leaders to see what the most sensible and inoffensive way is to portray the culture or symbolism. But to say that Native American symbolism or culture shouldnt be used at all is a bit silly. I know its not as sensitive but where do you draw the line? Are we going to stop Michigan from using the Spartans because its offensive to Greeks? I think this is fine personally, I wouldnt want to see portrayal of indigenous culture removed from media altogether. They got rid of their fake Native man mascot in the mid 80s and in general their name and design are not specifically offensive. The tomahawk chop is definitely borderline but there's no red man stereotypes, no headdresses, or anything else like that. If there weren't absolutely atrocious examples from other teams/sports to mow down I don't know if there'd be much momentum for going after the Braves. <cite>SomeUsername529 posted [p:959367190] in Watched th...
