Whose side are you on in this dispute?

Steven DeKnight, a screenwriter and director with Marvel Comics is QUITTING his job with the company after learning the Editor-in-chief, CB Cebulski had PRETENDE to be JAPANESE to further his career!!

He wrote "How does this man still have a job? Completely unacceptable. I love working with Marvel but will not pursue or accept future work until this is resolved. I hope other high profile creatives in the comic book biz will follow suit"

DeKnight has worked with a handful of Marvel entities including Wolver: Black, White & Blood and was the showrunner and executive producer of the first season of Daredevil

A Marvel rep did not respond to the comment

In 2017, Cebulski revealed he used a pseudonym "Akira Yoshida" in publishing several Marvel comics back in the early 2000s, most of which used Asian themes and characteres

He said it was completely unacceptable and writing for Marvel was his childhood dream come true as his next issues are out in December but in good conscience he could not accept additional work until this is resolved

He said it was more than a pseudonym and the depth of his deception should have disqualified him from even being considered for the position

Cebulski said he regretted his co-opting a japanese name saying it was never his intention to hurt anyone and said he was truly sorry for the pain, anger and disappointment he caused over his poor choice who said he is now listening and learning from his mistakes.

But DeKnight doesn't buy it claiming it's more complex who said "Personally, i'm not looking to destroy the guy's life. But ia lso don't think he's fit to be the editor in chief either"

While he stopped short of calling him a racist, he tweeted it showed a deep lack of ethics for the top editors position at Marvel

The 57 y/o offered a suggestion to his now former boss and that he should reach out to Asian communities and have a truly honest discussion about it and sit down with representatives from the community

Fans of Marvel showed solidarity with DeKnight and thanking him for being a true ally and voice to acknowledge change

Whose side are you on?

Serious question, Duckbear, do you intentionally spell things incorrectly when you write these up? Or is it legitimately an accident?

If this guy is to blame for taking a pseudonym (a common thing in writing) to cater to a certain market then so is Stephen king or everyone who ever changed their name to fit in.

if his writing didnt stand on its own then this wouldnt even be an issue. Obviously it was more than a name that grabbed the attention of readers.

I thought people could identify as whatever they wanted to these days. Man, Women, there was that white lady in California that identifies as black. If all that is ok and must be accepted or you are a bigot why cant this man identify as Japanese? Fine for me but not for thee, huh?

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Pseudonyms have long been used in writing.

Should we just ban everything written by a woman who used a male pen name?

Because you can't fire somebody for "not being Japanese"? I'm like 90% sure that would constitute discrimination.

Considering the racist hatred and disdain for non-Asians writing things with Asian characters, it seems understandable. The guy didn't do this apropos of nothing, he adopted a pseudonym to avoid the unwarranted criticism of a bigoted society which would have focused on the color of his skin rather than the content of his writing.

While your trolling is always fucking bizarre and how you avoid being banned makes me wonder who you caught in the middle of the night with a tarp and shovel, but this particular lie that you've been repeating for a while is particularly stupid and easily shown fake. No, Stephen King did NOT change his last name. King was his birth name.

More like "no matter how good his writing was, he'd catch hate from RACISTS who focused on the color of his skin," which is the unfortunate reality now ever since racists started to push for that nonsense.

Yeah, considering it wasn't even a EEO thing at that point, and even a EEO thing I'm not sure you could legally do anything about.

Whether CB is in the right or wrong, I think DeKnight quitting over that is just stupid.
