If you won the lottery, would you tell anyone?

according to statistics, 55% of people would tell their family and friends if they won the lottery although there's still a huge portion of people who would keep quiet on their daily double wins and either keep it to a limited amount of people or nobody at all until the jig is up.

The lottery is life changing money and you know people will come out of the woodwork asking you for money....

So would you tell anybody?

You have to tell someone. In order to claim it. Which is public info. So there's that.

How does the joke go?

Husband - "What would you do if I told you I won the lottery?"
Wife - "Probably divorce you and take half"
Husband - "Great! I won $6, here's your half"

I'd tell my mom, at least. I probably wouldn't tell anyone else I didn't have to tell, though

I guess it depends on how much money it was? Something like that could be hard to keep secret either way.

If I had the opportunity to help deserving people, I'd tell and help those people alone and make them sign NDAs.

Some family, some friends, some strangers, all get NDA'd.

My husband maybe but most I wouldn't tell until after I've consulted an attorney to determine how and when to claim the prize, and what to do with it as far as taxes are concerned. I know that, once people learn, I'll be besieged by long lost relatives (or those posing as long lost relatives at any rate) eager to get a cut of my winnings, if not jerks who claim that I owe them money for some bill I never ran up.

I think in some states they let you keep that info private after you claim it.

You setup an LLC and have someone in that claim it. So you can get it without your face being there. At least some states you can do that, idk if all of them allow it or not.
