I still remember seeing the inklings chase each other in their goop, and thought Splatoon 3 was already getting announced (in fairness, Splatoon was 2015, 2 was 2017. I could have seen Nintendo cashing in on Splatoon being their yearly franchise). Then, as someone who doesn't act crazy over game announcements, I saw the Smash symbol and went WILD. It still feels like sometimes, we should still be in the Sm4sh era, but alas, the end of Ultimate is upon us. Well, the end is terms of awaiting further excitement through characters we all know and love. I don't know about you, but damn, was FP2 a hot one. Biggest star of the 2010's, Steve; a top 3 iconic final boss, Sephiroth; and now Disney's own cross-over maniac, Sora; all in one location together for us to duke out with icons like Mario, Link, and R.O.B. With Sora's announcement, I would like to announce my own 3rd ever invitational: The PiOverlord's 2021 CEper Smash Bros Invitational is returning with the full fire Smash Ultimate rained down upon us, but there's once difference: I have a job! Random thing to say? Maybe, but that means one thing: I have *moneyto bri... I mean persuade some of you to join. It doesn't matter, though, because the person that's going to win that money is none other than me when I win ;) With that said, let's reveal what the prizes* will be with a few caveats that will be listed in the paragraph directly below (given out October 29th at the latest since that's when I receive my first paycheck. If the promised sign-on bonus is received before then, then the payouts will be given as soon as I receive that in my account). THE CHAMPION: $100.00 The First-place LOSER: $50.00 Literally choked before the finals: $25 Also literally choked before the finals: $25 Alright, with $200 in the prize pool, I hope this encourages some of you to join. The prize pool is contingent on a successful crowd as the entry fee is $0. That means all $200 is coming out of my pocket. If less than 4 show up, the tournament will be simply canceled. If only 4 people show up, then I'm not paying people for getting last place and prizes will only be $25 for first and $10 for 2nd. 5-8 will mean the prize is cut to $10 for the semi-finalists, and half of what the current prize is for 1st and 2nd. Anything above 8 contestants (including myself) will guarantee the prize pool listed above. The number of contestants will only include those considered final contestants, which means they entered and were not disqualified for no-shows or any other reason. I reserve the right to disqualify you for any reason if deemed necessary. Alright, now that we got that boring stuff about money that no one cares about, who's ready to talk about the tournament itself? As a tournament-fanboy, meaning I literally love the concept of tournaments more than the actual competition itself, I present you with the following guidelines: *PiOverlord's 2021 CEper Smash Bros Invitational Guidelines and Rules* How will this tournament work? This tournament will be divided into the Play-In and Playoff components, each with its own set of guidelines. The Play-In will involve a series of match-ups that will determine each contestant's record. The top 8 records from Play-In will then be seeded from best to worst record and move onto a single set/elimination playoff format. The Play-In Rules: Each contestant will face every other contestant twice One matchup will be on a Battlefield Variant stage while the other will be on a Final Destination (Omega) stage Each matchup will have a 5-minute time limit and 2-stocks for each fighter In the event of sudden death, a 1-stock match will happen immediately afterwards to determine the winner of the match To not be disqualified, a fighter must show up to 75% of their matches A no-show is an automatic loss for the no-shower. The opponent will not receive a win and records will be calculated by percentage of wins In the event a contestant is disqualified, all matchups recorded beforehand will be void. Any wins or losses obtained against them will no longer count Every fighter is allowed, and contestants are allowed to switch among fighters during the tournament When the play-in is finished, the records will be ranked from best to last. The top 8 records move on to the playoffs. Playoff-seeding tie-breakers As stated, only seeds #1-8 are accepted into the tournament. In the event there are ties for any seed, the following will be used to break the tie in order The fighter with a better record against the other will obtain the higher seed A single 2-stock match will decide the tie-breaker. The fighters may choose a FD or Battlefield stage. In the event of a 3-way tie: Proceed with step 1. Each matchup set will be a best-of-3 series The first match will be any Final Destination (Omega) or Battlefield Variant stage The second match will be any legal stage that the higher/better seed chooses (the list of legal stages will be released later) If a third match is required, it will be a Final Destination (Omega) if a Battlefield Variant was the first match and vice versa. Matches will have a time-limit of 7 minutes with 3-stocks for each fighter. If Sudden Death occurs, the match will be reset, and whoever takes a stock first wins the match The playoffs will not have a bracket due to unpredictability of upsets. In the 2nd round, the highest remaining seed will face the lowest remaining seed, the 2nd highest remaining against the 2nd lowest remaining.. Obviously, the finals are between the two remaining fighters. In the event a playoff contender is disqualified during the playoffs: If during the first round, the best eliminated contestant from play-in will be made the #8 seed and every other fighter is bumped up one seed until that spot is filled (This will occur if there are more than one disqualified fighter). If during the 2nd round, the fighter that lost to the disqualified fighter will take their place If, God forbid, during the finals, the fighter that lost to the disqualified fighter will take their place Just like during the play-in, every fighter is available to use and a contestant may switch between fighters as often as they like Special rule for the CHAMPIONSHIP Round The only rule for the championship round is that the first and 3rd matches have to be on Final Destination (Omegas are excluded) or Final Destination (Battlefield Variant). It's the FINAL match for crying out loud!!! This tournament is open for contestants and those who want to watch for fun alike. That being said, if the tournament is a success, I will need an assistant to open up a 2nd arena. As I cannot be there, I am relying on said assistant to adhere to the rules set above as the official for making sure fighters abide by stage rules and accurate results are reported to me. If a rule is broken during a match, I will simply reset the match (regardless if the fighters notice that they broke a rule before or after the void match is over). Final Notes about the tournament beforehand: Please sign up ahead of time so I have an accurate count and know how to plan fights If you do not know if you're schedule is free that weekend, and need to sign up at the last second if you find you are free, then I will of course still accept any fighters at any point. You can at least let me know if you're thinking about it. Please look at the schedule that will be listed below before signing up Please use your best judgement in deciding if you'll be able to make it Of course, you can always reverse your decision. He really doesn't pop up much on CE, and I think I @'ed him for the 2nd one since it wouldn't make sense to not invite the defending champion. The first one's topic is lost to time. If you look on... If I recall @FL81 actually performed pretty well against him with his Zelda, but just happened to lose two close matches. I lost a very close series to @PatrickMahomes 's Snake.
