If you stay off alcohol long enough your body will acclimate but if you keep using it as some sort of sleeping pill yeah your body's gonna have a hard time functioning without that assistance it's accustomed to.

I used to be like that. Haven't gotten drunk in 4 years, and I sleep like a baby every night. When I stopped drinking, I had insomnia for 2 weeks.
