i wonder this, too. it seems weird because of how you occasionally have a "3 paycheck month". i've been paid monthly since getting my first "real job" and getting the same amount every single month is so nice.

If they had to pay you every week or every day they couldn't use the money they owe you to make themselves richer.

Payroll processing costs money so it saves on that, and a lot of smaller businesses need a little buffer room to wait for other people to pay them.

I work for the state where they can just pay me once a month

Because payroll is a pain on the ass. Doing it on a weekly basis is a hassle. But also doing it monthly means people who are bad at money can be fudged for a whole month so.

In my previous jobs I got paid monthly.

Now I get paid twice a month, on the 15th and 30th of every month.
