Try building something where a natural disaster won't hit, see how many options you get.

And most coastal areas are vulnerable to hurricanes. That's basically suggesting to not build on a coast, despite coasts being centers of commerce due to ports and shipping lanes.

10 ft or 20 ft or 30 ft won't necessarily help during a hurricane, other than with flooding at which point 10 ft is often enough.
