Man it feels dated going to this after playing Y0, K1, K2, Y6, and LAD

Yeah it is but also remember this. It's the first that started the engine you know and love in 0 and Kiwami 1. It's fun to play 3 - 5 and see how much it grows into itself.

I have a real soft spot for 3. It is the game that got me into the series on the PS3. I didn't quite understand the allure but once I got Kiwami 1 it clicked and clicked hard

Yeah just follow a guide and sleep through it. Don't know if it works in 3 but in 4 you can make the walk around faster by walking till one of those speech bubbles pops up, then check on the hostess 3 times and start walking back and the message about that being enough walking around should trigger and you can move on.

It's garbage in 3 and 4. It's not really until 5 that you get the major, actually unique side games for each person. 0, K1, K2 and 6 really have awesome side games and stories.

K2 and 0 literally also have a cabaret minigame that I love so much

I feel you on 3 feeling dated, and I think the plot is paced all weird, but it still had some great "holy shit" moments that I expect from a Yakuza game.

Wasn't a fan of 3. 4 was stupid and bonkers, and while I haven't finished 5 it's got a ton of content and I like it well enough.

I prefer the Reminiscence version of 3 that has Kiryu narrating the events of the game. Actually playing the game was a huge chore.

I'd go back and play 4 anyday. I love how fucked up the faces get when you punch the shit out of them. I probably wouldn't replay 3 unless I got the remastered collection, and that's not happening any time soon.

Btw the completition reward for finishing the cabaret management in 4 is a pretty good armor item (10/10/10 I think it was?) that gives you a full heart at the start of a club date. So if you're going for completion do that before doing any of the dating stuff. Can get it immediately after unlocking the minigame and discard it before the end of the chapter to reclaim it on the next character.
