if people's favorite final fantasy characters meant anything two of the last three contests would have gone quite differently (probably most years to be fair)

You mean top 15? Yeah Squall vs Delita was a good final regardless of ranking (and I think it was closer than the two IV vs XIII finals, maybe Fang vs Cid P was closer)

I feel like with how fast this contest is it probably favors something that garners some more casual votes so Aerith/Seph vs Kefka sounds likely

I think the finals will come down to two out of Kefka, VII survivor, or X survivor. The other five characters simply don't feel like they could pull enough support to get there outside of being dragged in as a goat, and we don't have an obvious goat this year. Cid P and Edward were gaining goat steam long before the top ten!
