Is that it just looks fucking cool

We tell kids that smoking isnt cool. And we should. It kills people and it stinks. Its why we make them scurry behind buildings around dumpsters and stuff to do their stinky weird thing. If they did it out in the open, more would be drawn to their ranks. Obviously not in all ways, but in my view they share some traits with fictional undead subtypes of the science fiction and fantasy genres.

But its a lie. The part about it not looking cool is a lie. And its an honest kind of stupid. Like something truly uniquely American that allows a person to stare into basic verifiable facts and truly feel earnest in their defiance to someone claiming the sky is blue.

I dont think thats it cause there are plenty of brilliant people who are/were smokers and most people arent smokers and plenty of them are total morons that cant do a self checkout at all

I think the puckered lips look is stupid. Then again, i similarly hate the "duck face" girls make in pictures, but apparently there must be a lot who do like it....

(Not so) Hot take: It isn't the smoking that looks cool, it's the people doing it who look cool. You see celebs and attractive people smoking and it looks cool. That's the image, that's the advertising. If it was a middle aged fat greasy slob being depicted smoking, it wouldn't look cool; he'd look like a total loser and the smoking would enhance that image, not counteract it.

It's more than ok, it's one of the best movies ever made.

I don't think I've ever found smoking to be "cool". Like, I know pop culture sort of pushed the idea for years by having cool characters or sultry characters in movies smoke, but I always hated the smell so much as a kid that I just never saw anyone who smoked as being cool (and women smoking was always a turn-off). And I was born/was a kid before they started pushing the strong anti-smoking ads on TV and such.

On the other hand, smoking a pipe does make you +20% more intellectual. That's just science.
