Do you think the stimulus aides made people lazy?

Employers keep saying they can't find people to work. Is it because of the stimulus aide?

I find it odd that people could live without working just from the stimulus package. They only issued three payouts in total and I am sure some people had to pay bills with that money which didn't leave much money left over.

It's because the cost of living keeps going up and up and wages are actually decreasing

Maybe the employers should pay and treat their employees well.

It has nothing to do with the stimulus aide. The problem with employment is that people cannot find FULL TIME jobs with benefits. All these corporations (big or small) only want to give their employees part time jobs with no benefits. It's pure crap.

I think being born into wealth and privilege has made a lot of people lazy, but those aren't the people benefiting from these programs.

No, and you got to consider Vaccination rules, new Distancing Guidelines, Mask Mandates, etc

People just don't wanna go back to work just to get sick and Drop dead over what, $10-$20 Bucks an Hour?

Personally, I'm ready to go back (the place I worked for has 'Ceased Operations' but the two places so far either Ghosted me when I showed up or the other Job offer wasn't quite right for me (low pay, mandatory weekends, etc) so I really hope I can find some Remote Work type jobs/task that pay a Decent amount that I can do

Absolutely. They were put together to help out during that period of uncertainty, then towards the end people just started abusing the systems

They've all ended (in most states) and there's still a staff shortage

Jobless numbers went up again for the 3rd week in a row

It's a mixed bag.

Yea the unemployment benefits made it so no one had to look for a new job and the places that were dealing with a massive surge in business weren't able to hire help. That is a fact.

Now that it is all over money or not people don't want to go back to shitty jobs. A lot of people are trying to step up, more specifically trying to get out of retail or food. Even with places offering much higher starting wages. Given that my generation is used to having no money or opportunities most of us are stuck living with our parents anyways not like it's hurting much.

I can say from personal experience that my job has had maybe 20+ applicants in the past 3 months who set up an interview and then never showed up. I think in the 16 years I've worked here we've had maybe 3 people total who never showed for their interview. Found out from somebody who knew one of them that they do this to show they're looking for a job so they can collect their benefits from the couch.

Which puts a huge strain on me and my 2 co-workers, as we have to man a 24/7 operation so our hours are ridiculous (we are 3 people short).

it is a combination of the cost of living constantly rising, businesses not offering full time positions solely so that they don't have to give out any benefits, along with them constantly rallying against ANY talk of raising wages.

people are sick of barely surviving while having to have two or three jobs.

Not to get all schmendrake on you, but have you ever thought that possibly your depression and recent suicidal thoughts are driven at least partially by a lack of accomplishment or purpose in your life?

stimulus aides allow people to live. the 'it makes people lazy' line has been used by Conservatives for ages. people would be able to work harder if they had a basic income that allowed them to live and not have to struggle every damn day.

I hear ya buddy, we've pulled overtime (a full extra day) for almost 2 months. It's almost like if you're currently working, you're doing more than what the normal work load would be.. and that doesn't work for everybody

Bunch of stuff is a factor. Where I live the wages don't really cover the cost of living, so if you can figure out a way to survive without working it makes sense.

Average rent in Olympia WA is $1476

Min wage is 13 and change but the average entry level wage here is about $16 right now.
Even if you can get 40 hours (many don't offer that), that is $520 a week, so about $1650 a month after taxes.

$1600-$1476= 124$

That doesn't pay for utilities and internet alone, probably barely pays for transportation, and you couldn't even afford a loaf of bread a day.

So yeah, sorry you can't find anyone to work for you $16/hr jobs that you'll only letting them work less than 30 hours a week at.

Not exclusively. It was probably enticing when you got temporarily laid off and whatnot but now we been months without those benefits and without any sort of bonus cash. Companies especially in Retail and Dining need to take a good look at themselves.

People were probably already lazy. This just helped them to not have to do stuff. It was fine at the beginning. But when people started not going back to work just to get extra money, thats bad

I don't think even wealthy people should live alone (in a unit by themselves) because it's extraordinarily inefficient. In this regard, average total cost of an apartment only applies to those who refuse the economical and environmentally sensible choice of living with others.

There might be more of them that are lazy than not but the lazy among them were always lazy it wasnt brought on by benefits. If you can make similar if not even higher pay by not working as opposed to flushing a chunk of your life down the drain for it then its just the logical thing to do.

No, it's just that employers are used to having more leverage in the employer-employee relationship. People aren't lazy; they just don't want to work a job they hate for subsistence/below subsistence returns for their labor, and these safety nets actually help equal out their ability to say no to shitty jobs with shitty benefits and wages.

Employers are supposed to have to EARN their employees via appropriate wages and benefits. They are NOT entitled to people's labor. The fact that some employers offer such shitty wages/benefits for such shitty jobs that people will no longer work them if they no longer have to worry about starving to death is a condemnation of the employers, not the employees. This is not hyberbole; employers know that the threat of homelessness/starvation is often the only thing that keeps their employees trapped working for them... sometimes they let it slip.
