Board 8 > New World has been out for almost a week. Anybody playing?

I didn't expect to, but I found myself owning the game and have been pretty into it so far. $40 and no subscription fee is a fair ask, I'd say. I like the classless nature of it and the ability to respec both weapon trees and character attributes freely until level 20 is a great idea that allows you to really explore each weapon and skill tree. I haven't dabbled in the PvP yet, but I like the idea of it being faction-based and am excited for the point where I feel comfortable trying my hand at that. There's a Corruption Invasion later today that I'm going to hop on and see what that is like.

All that said, I'm very much looking forward to a future roadmap. I'm hoping they'll be able to add in more weapons and skill trees and also features like dual wielding or the ability to equip a shield with more than just a sword or at the very least offer other off-hand equipment. Also the enemy spawns are ridiculous right now and make it hard to level up your character or look at any drops unless you run away from the area you are in.

Anybody else have impressions?

I guess not. That's fair.

It gives me strong Runescape vibes where almost everything is a skill you can raise. It'll be interesting to see how the playerbase holds up over time, especially when the new FFXIV expansion drops in a month.

Everyone I know who tried it has already dropped it entirely. Partially because they think it's very bad and the other part is that it was bricking video cards for a while.

I just fundementally don't want to play something made by Amazon and by extension, Twitch. Who knows what kind of skeezy cross monetization they might try.

Ya, that's a hard pass for me. I watched a few streams of people playing it and it just seems so dull, boring and lifeless.

Wasnt it only bricking specific 3090s?

I know a lot of people playing it who have made the same RuneScape comparison. It looks fun, but Im way too busy rn to get into HD RuneScape, maybe some day

No, it's bricking a bunch of other 30-series cards now.

Been going at it quite a bit the past week, really enjoying getting completely distracted by crafting and gathering.

Using a bow mostly which seems great for PvE but my aim is garbage when it comes to PvP and I put all my stats into dex so I die in like 2 hits.
Was doing some pvp quests in a large group that ended up in a probably 50 v 50 war; trying to flee to safety with dozens of arrows and spells raining down around was a pretty unique experience.

Yes the sound design is quite remarkable. Mining a rock or chopping a tree sounds so satisfying and the echoes throughout the environment is beautifully done.

An interesting thing happened on my server yesterday. The leader of the largest companies on the server leading one of the towns for my faction ended up being a traitor. He raised the taxes on the Monarch's Bluffs, kicked everyone from the company, and joined another faction. It sucks because Monarch's Bluffs is where I had been storing all my stuff and doing all my crafting, so I had to move all my stuff to another hamlet. It cost a fair bit of gold. There is a war for the territory scheduled for Wednesday against the faction he joined.
