I don't think it aged as well as I thought it would.

Still cool but some of the scenes are kind of awkward. Just finished the L dies episode and it was a it climatic. I feel like they could have made that so much better leading up to it instead he just kind of just randomly dies.

How was that random with no buildup? That entire arc was about Lights elaborate plan to finally kill him

I meant like the 5 minute build up to it was just random. I know it was probably anime filler with the rain thing but it was weird. And I just read the part in the manga and they excluded parts that Rem and L were thinking/saying.

I'd say it overall holds up, but the fan service (i.e. Misa Amane) is definitely forced and kinda cringey. The soundtrack is still incredible though, and I appreciate the consistently high quality of the art/animation. The manga is still the go-to for the most cerebral experience, though, as you get to see more of the thought process that goes into the characters' decisions.

Misa wasn't fanservice. Yes she is attractive and wore cute outfits but there was a point to that since Light is pretty much a nerd/loner and he has this freaking bombshell all over him but he doesn't give a fuck.

Yeah, I never got the vibe that Misa was meant to be fan service. I figured she was the Japanese equivalent of a ditzy valley girl and the conflict was someone like that forcing herself into Light's life.

It was good for the most part. Everything with Near after was just a downward spiral until the laughable ending

By the creator's own admission, Misa was made so that the series wouldn't be such a sausage fest. He thought people would find it boring if the series was always cerebral, and therefore Misa is braindead eye candy whose stupidity makes for a convenient and lazy plot device.
