ftr Samus Returns was 11-12 hours for a first run normal mode 100% clear, with Dread by the same team

not that I'm really expecting (or wanting) that again as SR was a remake, of a game without a real open-world for branching off the way Dread is hyped up to... but I wouldn't just be assuming Dread to be ZM-Fusion lengthed

personally I like the Zero Mission type of focus on replayability with designed non-standard routes to take and unlocking different endings for repeat playthroughs

it's almost a shame dread is happening since it kills any hopes of any other metroidvania from this year featuring anywhere in gotys (and there have really been a lot of great ones this year)

Lots of good ones, sure, but none of them have blown me away as top tier. Plus Dread could always flop, though people seem high on it so far.

I thought of Endwalker too, but how long do FF14 expansions take to get reviewed? I don't think reviewers get advance copies, so I figured it'd take like a month+.

that's fair. if silksong had any hope of being this year it'd be at the top among them for sure, but even then... a year with axiom verge 2, ender lilies and psycron (and lost ruins wasn't that great but i liked it too) isn't a bad one for metroidvanias.

need to get around to GRIME/Greak/Astalon/Phoenotopia/Deedlit etc... (and i suppose the last wonder boy and blaster master entries kind of count too)

transiruby and glimmer in mirror might make it before the end of the year too along with the touhouvania remake

i think i'm still forgetting a few but oh well

There certainly are a ton! FIST being the last big one. Ender Lilies and Axiom Verge 2 are the two I played AV2 was quite good, but I liked AV1 better. EL's a little worse than that, though still enjoyable. EL had some damn good atmosphere.

other m 100% and fusion 100% clears finished todayy, that puts an end to my mainline playthroughs (although I might work on a <2h run hunting down all endings like I did for ZM)

I dunno if it's because I played it right off of Other M, but I really have a lot more appreciation for Fusion than I remember. I mean it is a game that I played +40 times in one summer month during my high school days so I always did like it, but I've always preferred the SM-ZM style of open worlds (and wall-jump, need that inf. wall jump)

But I appreciate the quality of Fusion, and I really like the threat of X Parasites and the shady behaviour of the Galactic Federation. Despite being aboard a space vessel, the environments are much better than ZM as well, plus Fusion suits top tier suits.

also ngl the Adam bits get some more impact after Other M and being able to piece together aspects that were brought up in the prequel,

Playing Fusion though gets me frustrated again about what we know of Dread with Samus seemingly being on normal terms with the Galactic Federation. I know Other M lightens it up as a shady faction within the Federation (although the leader that comes in at the end seems pretty high ranked), but ending now on Fusion it really feels like the organization itself is just hungry for power without consideration of the risks, and it definitely leaves Samus at odds with them, suggesting she'll have a lot to answer for.

But yeah I'm still excited for Dread to put finally bring a new quality title this time hopefully embracing the open-world aspects of the series to its fullest again.
