The model 3 is only like 40k which is fairly affordable. Even the model S is only 90k which while not near as affordable for most isn't some high end price range.

You kinda need to own a house to drive an electric car though

So it can be a status sign in big cities

You can rent a place and charge one. Even a lot of apartments have the option to charge one. Even then living in a house doesn't make you rich. That's middle class level

That's the high end model and yeah thats not a lot. There's plenty of luxury cars in that price range or higher without near as much prestige to the average person

Yrah but they're affordable by the middle class.
Which is far from rich imo

Even if I had forty thousand dollars, it'd be a waste. I have no place to charge it. It's a small town and they don't put outlets in the parking lots. Go figure.

That's just poor people having a misunderstanding of what rich is.
Having more money than the poor doesn't make someone rich

Almost all apartment complexes in big cities have charging stations though.

It STARTS at $35k but by the time you add-on the things to make it useful (long range for instance) and add on taxes you'll be up to $45-50k. Which sure isn't super expensive but it's not cheap either. Self-driving is another $10k add-on.

Because you have to invest a load into the charging for it, and most people don't have just a Tesla, they have one as a commuter and a car that runs on a gas engine besides. And until they make charging an electric car as convenient and fast as filling a fuel tank they'll just be rich people toyd. There is more to the cost of owning a Tesla than how much you pay at the dealer.

Its almost like wealth is relative. Crazy.

Also if you can afford a 90k car you're doing pretty damn well. Thats easily well into upper middle class territory.

Depends on if your in an area where a house > 1,000,000

I live one block from a Tesla charging station so I could conceivably go electric for my next car

Idk if Tesla is what I want though, hopefully the charges keep getting more universal

Ehh. If you really don't drive a lot, you can get by with a regular 120v outlet that everyone has at home.
If your washer and dryer is in your garage, you can even use that outlet and get faster speeds.
Or if needed, you can get an electrician to help you set stuff up, but it won't be "a load". It will probably be under 2k I'd guess, and some states will have incentives to reduce that as well

Which is completely affordable for the middle class.

Yeah but upper middle class isn't rich.

It's really not that bad. Tesla's are pretty common where I work and I wouldn't call a single person there rich. There all just middle to upper middle class

The cars (Model 3 and Y) aren't too outrageously priced compared to some other entry level luxury brands, but like...cars in general are pretty pricey these days. Those monthly payments add up.

The outlet the washer/dryer is attached to is usually different than the standard outlet you'd plug a regular electronics into. Higher voltage and amperage.

I bought my Model S when I lived in an apartment. I quickly got a garage with a power outlet I could use to charge it, though. Before that, I would just go to the supercharger station down the block. I moved there specifically because it was near a supercharger and I knew I'd be buying the car soon after moving in.

I have a house now, though, an it's much better overall... But pretty much the same as having that garage. I just have more space now.
