My TV will be about 7 feet 9 inches from my couch for context.

RTINGS' highest rated TV for my price is the Hisense U6G, which is $550 for a 55" TV. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u6g

But then you also got TVs that are within $50 of that price that are 65", albeit lesser picture quality. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/v-series-2020

What would you say is the right option?

Without a doubt the first. HDR will either be useless or a straight downgrade on the second TV. On the first you're at least in the "some improvement, probably" range for gaming.

Edit: For streaming applications you might need to find ways to turn the HDR off for both TVs. But for the second you will 100% want to do that.

let that determine the size you buy. getting a TV that's "too large" is definitely a thing. it's like being in the front row at a theater. you can't see the whole screen at once and it's just uncomfortable to keep moving your head towards the action on screen.

that said, if it's a matter of 5"-10" vs a prettier picture, i'd favor the picture quality, personally.

Wait. I got a 65 Hisense at Best Buy for $250 on a Black Friday deal. Wasnt even hard either. Because of COVID they started the deals two weeks before Thanksgiving. I saw the deal online, went in to the store and grabbed one of maybe ten TVs. Nobody even knew somehow. I told the cashier about the deal and he didnt even know.

Just keep an eye out and youll save hundreds.

Size. I have a 75" 4K LED TV, and I'm glad I got it instead of a 55" OLED.

There is an advantage of picking the better quality of picture because the tv could last you many years.
