It's not the first time. Back in 2013 I had a few sessions and found it helpful. I'd say I loved it. It got stopped short due to change in coverage (plus a tad bit of laziness on my end in terms of just not seeking it out once it became less convenient.)

I've known full well for a number of years now that I ought to talk to a professional about this website and my history on it. Of course, none of that exists in a vacuum. There's plenty of non-GameFAQs reasons for me to see a therapist, too. But this place and all the toxic raging I've done here have been a rather obvious problem point for me for the past...decade? Sheesh.

Anyway, I don't have a good reason to have put it off so long. I definitely told Chris in a PM years ago I need to have a talk with a therapist about this stuff. But a combination of just being stubborn and lazy and cheap and drunk and distracted and etc. has led to it not happening.

I finally arranged an appointment a while ago. Had my second session this week.

I felt so much lighter even after just an intake appointment which basically can be boiled down as me saying "there's reasons I know I ought to see a therapist and here's what they are". Like, I could've said all that to a brick wall and probably not felt much different afterward, but simply having another living breathing human in the room who is listening with an unbiased perspective makes all the difference in the world.

Within two total hours of conversation we'd already connected a couple of my biggest underlying problems here with aspects of my childhood that make total sense. And the thing is, it's nothing surprising. It's not as if I suddenly realized some deep problem in my life that I'd never considered before. Just something about systematically approaching the issue from a blank slate gives everything a lot of clarity.

I don't know where exactly this thread is supposed to be going, but it just seemed on theme with my life to make it. I've already overshared ten million other stupid embarrassing things from my past here, so what could it hurt to share a little good while I'm at it.

So uh...what's up?

Way way way way way way back in the day before even turbopuns (no numbers) I thought this SHINE guy was like so cool. He had a gimmick everyone enjoyed. I wanted to be cool also so I imitated him then someone called me out for ripping him off and then I felt sad and lame.

True story!

Really glad to hear it. Therapy is just immensely relaxing for me and has really put my life back together.

If you're interested in talking about mental health insurance, just send me a message. I work in health insurance already and I personally had to go through the complex system of mental health insurance, so I'm pretty familiar with the system. I think mental health resources are immensely valuable but I also believe insurance creates a lingering feeling of resentment just due to how it works. It's tough.

What had more impact in this round of you going to therapy?

Mafia Champs or Ted Lasso?

That's good to know! I'm fortunate to be in a great spot for the moment, but it could potentially change soon.
