The concept of a Final Fantasy crossover is cool on paper, but the characters are mostly flanderized versions of themselves [insert roses here]. I do enjoy some of the character interactions though, particularly where Kefka (and Squall, of course) is involved.

I like that the current Opera Omnia arc is subtly acknowledging their past Dissidia experiences via memories certain characters are starting to recall being together with other characters before, and the light compasses received by previous Dissidia characters

I can't talk about the original though

Nonsensical but it was good to see my favorite Final Fantasy characters interact with each other.

I seem to recall enjoying Dissidia's story a bit more than Brawl's thanks to the characters actually talking to each other.

Yeah it is a little better than Sub Space Emissary but that is not a very high bar to clear.

Strikes a tone that doesn't actually feel like Final Fantasy but someone's parody of it.

I think all the good points come down to fighting game adaptation of characters, giving people like Garland and Firion something unique and wacky to distinguish them in combat. Seeing them confront their counterparts is satisfying in a simple action movie way. But the story is really pretty crap, combining a bare-bones crossover setup with brief "character development" that is either made up for former non-characters or a cheap knock-off of the source material.

Most of Square's worst storytelling problems come home to roost with this game, between the convolution, poor characterization, and inability to convey emotion, but it is true that there are a couple fun scenes here and there.

Just looked this up out of intrigue. It is pretty cool, but jeez that VA for the full scene leading up to it is distracting. I mean it feels wrong hearing Squall speak out loud anyway, but the quality of the script and acting seems... not so good! And Ulti lost her accent :(

Squall is the only reason why Dissidia doesn't get a 1 from me. Him ending Ultimecia mid dialogue is one of the most memorable scenes in a video game.

The story is...well, there. A couple dialogue quotes from Ex-Death have stuck with me. That's about all I can say.

I never really liked any of Squall's voiced depictions. I think they work alright in KH and Dissidia, but it wouldn't work for a full FFVIIIR kind of thing. Boreanaz was pretty cool though.

5.5/10. Sure, the characters are mostly one note like the rest of the Dissidia series. The background story that goes into more detail in Duo and OO is enough to make it just above passable.

Yeah, Boreanaz was really good. Doug Erholz does a fine job, but it's not as good as that.
