Health Canada has authorized 3 new COVID-19 Vaccine names which has now been approved in the country as they had no names previously and generally were referred to only by the company's names.

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will now be named Comirnaty and Moderna will be named SpikeVax and AstraZenica will be VaxZevira.

There's no changes to the vaccine themselves but only given names and it marks the approval of these vaccines for those 12 and over

They noted when the companies submitted their vaccines to Health Canada to seek approval under the Food and Drug Regulations it included brand name changes after review of all the required data on safety, efficacy and manufacturing processes

The new vaccine names are already being used for promotional purposes in the EU and the US

Moderna will also build a plant in Canada after Justin Trudeau made a deal to to build one here for future outbreaks as he said the need for a homegrown vaccine facility is needed. It will be built in either Ontario or Quebec

Moderna said it was pleased with Health Canada's approval of its SpikeVax vaccine however some are worried about confusion on the name change and may avoid it if they are not named by the company name

Comirnaty just sounds like "comorbidity" which is...ugh... Probably the worst name of the lot.
SpikeVax just sounds unpleasant to receive.
VaxZevira sounds like a STD/STI.
Janssen makes me think of Famke, so at least it gives off a positive reaction. So I pick that one.

That's just...a bunch of random letters. Makes me think of Comecon (or Comicon, I guess). "Pfizer" sounds halfway cool. Poor job there.

SpikeVax is much more interesting, but it sounds...fake. "Spike"?

VaxZevira is a mouthful, but I guess it's the best of the group. It gets across the "vaccine" part without adding anything too silly i.e. "Spike".

Janssen is just someone's last name: I know a "Janssen". Shouldn't be a vaccine name.

SpikeVax sounds like it's spiked with like a roofie or something.

VaxZevira would work the other way around but it's not called ZeviraVax and sounds dumb.

Obviously I do not have as strong a "cringe-sensor" in English. I always use jab for what I would call a "prik" in Dutch, when related to vaccinations and the like.

In British English they always say jab. In the US we find that weird and say shot. Just a regional thing.

I always pictured a boxer throwing a quick jab...with a needle in his hand. Granted, I can see where "shot" would be weird if you aren't used to it, though.

It depends which part of the motion you emphasize: pushing in the needle or pressing the plunger. :)

"Prick" is actually a pretty good description. It just has...unfortunate connotations here. :)
