Y'know those Lululemon leggings that go halfway up your torso to squeeze in your love handles?

Apparently they're over $100? Some are $130 to $140?

All of my gym clothes (two shorts $14 ea, two shirts $9 ea, and shoes $20) were together less than half of that. I could afford the expensive clothes if I wanted but what I've got works and holds up over time and I've never thought "man I wish these gym clothes were more functional"

I just don't get ~fashion~

And if they are working out in that stuff that expensive, they probably got sponsored from that company to wear it.
(Nike please sponsor me so I can wear your exercise apparel!!!)

i mean, the cheapest stuff at walmart definitely does not hold up the same as higher-quality items

that being said, lululemon in particular is way too expensive for what it is. you're better off just going to sportchek or whatever

About the only improvement I'd wish for in the clothes I exercise in is a more durable crotch. I've worn holes in the crotches of pretty much every pair of jeans I've ever retired because I bike in them so frequently. Of course, I could get that by biking in pretty much anything but jeans, so that's not exactly a tall order and I really only have myself to blame for that being a chronic problem.

That said, for people that do a lot of yoga et al, I can see the appeal of something that stretches more comfortably. A decent sports bra is also pretty much a must for people that have to worry about their boobs flopping all over the place. There's a legitimate market for exercise clothes, even relatively expensive ones (my understanding is that their quality has fallen off quite dramatically in recent years, but Lululemon stuff used to be exceptionally comfortable, to the point of actually justifying their price tag), it's just not going to necessarily include every exercise activity.

Ages ago I got subscribed to Out magazine and I got so pissed off at every issue because they were always showing ads for $1000 tennis shoes and $500 t-shirts and $10,000 sunglasses. Yeah, sure, some gay people have more money and can afford that crap, but a $500 t-shirt doesn't look any better than a $5 t-shirt from Walmart and they're probably both made by the same Chinese slave-labor camp.

I love fashion but high end sportswear baffles me. Because it just looks exactly like the normal cheap stuff unless you have a trained eye. It's not like investing in expensive outerwear or formal wear. Especially for people who can't even afford it and still scramble for it. Leave that stuff to the celebs to go round in their $1K trackpants or sneakers.

idk why you guys think the choices are either $5 walmart stuff or $10,000 gucci stuff

there's plenty of reasonably priced stuff that is more comfortable and will last longer

Yep! I dont understand mom wanting to get shoes that cost close to $200. The only ones I have that cost that much are the ones with wheels in the heel. She does enjoy doing half-marathons and it helps to have good shoes for that I guess.

The more expensive it is the better it is, right? That's how logic works right?

I'm mostly biking for transportation purposes, and I wear jeans pretty much everywhere. I could change when I get there, but it's not really worth that effort.

It's not easy (fitting both my waist and my thighs is a challenge), but I can usually manage. That's mostly why I resent how often I wear holes in them. Comfortable fits aren't the easiest to come by.

The people buying these things aren't people who actually exercise, they just do light jogs around the block and claim they're "active".

I do not hesitate to say that regularly walking will be much better for your health than deadlifts or marathons
